**Huge CGN .264 Bullet Test Result** (lots of pics!)

I was wondering if there were any velocity numbers to go with this data, since manufacturers always list the optimum velocity for maximum bullet performance.

I have the velocities posted at the bottom of the first post but I've got to admit they are a little hard to find. I loaded the cartridges to approximate modern 6.5x55 and .260 Rem impact velocities at 100yds.

Approximate impact velocity:
90-100gr.............2850-2900fps
120gr..................2750-2800fps
125gr..................2600-2700fps
129-130gr............2550-2600fps
140gr-142.5gr.......2500-2550fps
156-160gr............2400-2500fps
168gr..................2300-2400fps

I've got some, thanks.

So far, Part Deux will include the following:

- 85 Sierra HP
- 120gr Barnes TTSX
- 140gr Swift Scirocco II
- 140gr Sierra GameKing
- 140gr Nosler Accubond
- 140gr Speer HotCor
- 140gr generic FMJ
- 140gr Berger VLD Hunting
- 140gr water quenched and regular cast
- 174gr water quenched and regular cast

Good job! Looking forward to the Berger VLD Hunting:)

I would love to. Steve, what calibers do you need bullets from?

Just doing 6.5mm for now. I'll probably do a small .44 bullet test at the same time from my .444 Marlin. I'm good for bullets for now but thanks for offering.

Reloaded all my ammo today. I'm hoping to go shooting by the end of the week. Thanks everyone for your contributiona and patience. This is what we'll have in Part Deux:

- 85 Sierra HP
- 120gr Barnes TTSX
- 120gr Swift A-Frame
- 140gr Swift Scirocco II
- 140gr Sierra GameKing
- 140gr Speer HotCor
- 140gr Nosler Accubond
- 140gr generic FMJ
- 140gr Berger VLD Hunting
- 160gr Woodleigh Weldcore
- 140gr water quenched and regular cast
- 174gr water quenched and regular cast

The Nosler Partions seemed to do almost as well as the TSX's?

They did better, imo.

120gr TSX - 13.67" penetration and 0.592" expansion
125gr Part.- 15.00" penetration and 0.614" expansion

130gr TSX - 18.00" penetration and 0.552" expansion
140gr Part.- 15.17" penetration and 0.629" expansion

So the 130gr TSX penetrates a bit better, but with a significantly smaller diameter. I doubt it matters much in real life, but it does show that the Partition is still a great design. I am very curious to see how the Swift A-Frame and Woodleigh bullets will perform.

if your still looking for bullets i've got some 130 accubonds, as well as some ancient nikel jacketed 160 RN's pulled from dominion 6.5x54 ammo, would be interesting to see how bullet construction of 80 years ago fairs in such a test.

WOW~~~~SERS!!!!! What an AWESOME and then some bullet test!!! BCSTEVE........ThankX for all your dedication...patience....paper gathering...photography and reporting. You Sir, are Royalty here in CGNATION!! I've owned 6.5x55's for years....played with only a small handfull of bullets working up my loads....and you tested allllll four of them!! How sweet is that!! We used to do some of these tests...eons ago, only on a MUCH much smaller scale....two types..heh heh heh!!...Thankx again for all your effort!!....Kevin

Went shooting today. I just need to find time to clean, measure, weigh, photograph, upload, etc... Stay tuned!
