So this happened today - Sako A7

It's called a sling swivel stud for a reason, not a bi-pod mount. These are hunting rifles, not sniper rifles and I think it's safe to say of the millions of rifle hunters out there only a small percentage have not only never used a bi-pod, most probably have no idea what one is.

Yeah, OK, I'm sure their R&D department couldn't of imagined the possibility that their stock just may end up wearing a bipod. With that s**te design, I'd be scared to wrap into my rifle sling for fear of breaking the stud.

And all my hunting rifles (none wear plastic BTW) wear a bipod more often than not, and surprisingly, for hunting. If I get one shot, I mean to make it count. I guess I'll steer clear of the T3, oops, I mean A7...

An unfortunate incident, but have you asked the inporter on the cost of a replacement stock for it (due to its a 1 1/2 year old gun and the damage was incured due to the owners actions) or possible warranty consideration?
And as for the Sako bashing, I owned a T3- nice gun worked OK and generally I would recomend them if thats your price point but earlier this year I bucked up for a stainless synthetic model 85. The gun is flat out awsome, I beat it hard last week in the bush and it exceeded all my expectations by a wide margin - this rifle IMO personifies what I expect the Sako name implies, no offence but I think the A7 is more akin to the T3. Nothing wrong with that, but it was built to a price point. If you pay for a Chevette, don't complain it isn't a Corvette (NOTE: I think the A7 is way better than a Chevette- but you get the idea).

I just bought another Marlin XL7, brand new, from our local dealer for $375 out the door. That is the fourth Marlin X rifle I have bought this year, and every one shoots close to, or under, an inch.

How many can I buy for the price of a SAKO? ;)

I'm just surprised the stock was hollow.

I assumed for the money spent on a Sako that there would be a reasonably decent stock on it.

We are talking about an A7 here, not a Sako 85. These rifles cost no more than a comparable Remington, Winchester, Ruger, or Tikka. And anyone that thinks a plastic stock on a sub-$1000 rifle should be indestructible and have a lifetime warranty, needs to step into reality.

Plastic is used to cut costs, that's it. The fact that it is lighter than steel is a bonus for the manufacturers. But even if it was heavier, they would still use it, because its cheaper.

And an absolute piece of junk at that. The tears are big when they break. I've seen em.:D Makes a $600 used 700 in a $450 McMillan seem like a good idea. And it absolutely is and astounds me that that is a tough sell.

You got it. If I wouldnt have traded Bartell for his Laminate stock on my Sako 85 I'd have probably sold it by now. And I'm still not a big fan of how heavy the Laminate is...oh well.

Sako upgraded the A7 stock because of this type of failure. You should get a free replacement. Contact Stoeger Canada

Well, if you enjoy taking your life in your hands, then yeah, buy a 700 :D

Oh God! I have more than a half doz 700's, all heavy barrel bench rest units, heard the story/stories, is it true? should I be selling them or rather floughing them off for peanuts? No give-a-ways, please! ????

LOL, you guys see that huge smiley face at the end of the sentence? That should be a little clue for those who can't tell when a comment is made tongue-in-cheek ;)

you're not saying that Bartell hosed ya, are you? say it isn't so!

Well he is a Hoosier...but he had the Laminate and traded for MY tupperware stock...so I made out like a Bandit. :D

Sure is, and that's why mine have McMillans...;)

You're not allowed to talk Mr."I own 3 late model EDGE stocked Sako's"

Was it you that was saying they wont make McM's for Model 85's anymore? I need to call and find out.

I think this winter I'll be stocking my WALKER DEATH TRIGGERED Model 700 and my Sako with McM's if the planets align.

Get some Kids puddy, piece of steel, bedding compoud ( Acraglas Gel), sand paper, Krylon plastic paint and the stock will be better than new.... don't lose your sling stud.
