T3 vs A7 vs M70 Featherweight(new)

so don't most people talk ctc? and here your talking o.d. group sizes! dude, that 10 shot group is half inch imo, do i have it wrong folks? i haven't spent alot of time on cgn forums for gun talk...usually just to sell/buy etc. so maybe i'm out of the loop....if your keeping stuff under .5" O.D. that is awesome for little sporters like these, for anything really!

Well, not looking to boost your ego right off the map, but...

Years of reading all kinds of articles in rifle magazines, one can conclude that:

a) People spend serious gobs of money on highly customized rifles in hopes of attaining groups like that...and often still can't.

b) Tactical rifles...mostly costing big, big bucks...are the rage now, mostly to shoot groups like that.

c) Most gun writers maybe ain't really all that good off the bench???

d) Both rifles and ammo, for all the usual griping, indeed have come a long, long way with regard to overall quality and ability to deliver consistent sub-MOA accuracy.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that, by today's standards, any manufacturer that can't deliver a rifle that, all things being equal, can't punch MOA groups with reasonable quality factory ammo for about $1000, give or take, probably ain't up to snuff with the competition, and needs to seriously consider cleaning up its act.

Just sayin'...

Just a side note on the Sako A7, if you dont like the plastic bolt shroud it can be replaced with a steel one made for the Sako 85. 50 bucks from Brownells;)

hoping to see pics or more comments on this i can't find anything...for sure it would go on there?

nice tip, thanks...

Just bought a new Mod. 70 Featherweight. Haven't fired it yet but the gun is very nice overall. Barrel is in the center of the channel, trigger is very good for factory setting. Action is very smooth. I've got a bunch of Mod. 70s and this one looks very good. Those other guns are just fine for other people. Hahaha

Since someone revived this thread today, I ended up buying a real nice used Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5x55. It is stupid accurate

This was the best group, 4 into one hole and I pulled the fifth.

This is actually the load I settle on

Here's the rifle, sorry for the messy bench

I just got back from my annual deer trip, I fired two rounds, filled a supp tag with a tricky shot I threaded through several trees to drop a doe, bang flop at about 120 yards, then yesterday we were driving through an enormous field and saw a nice buck about a kilometre in the distance, I hopped out as my buddy continued, got much closer and as he was about to bolt I shot him offhand, bang flop, I paced it off at 254 yards which is by far the longest offhand shot I've ever made(I didn't realize it was that far).

The gun weighs 7.5 pounds including a Elite 4200 2.5x10x40 scope, optiloks and three in the clip.

I had a tikka t3 ss 30/06 and a new m70 fwt deluxe (also 30/06). As much as I liked the t3, the winchester was the one I kept. Gorgeous wood, great checkering, great accuracy (although i've never made a single hole out of 5 shots, let alone 10). action is almost as smooth as the tikka, better 3position safety and crf....and way better looking rifle.

Hello martinbns
What bullet are you using to get those fantastic groups?
Thanks..

Plain jane Hornady 129 gr spirepoints, Winchester brass, fed 210m primers, 2.96 COL. That's what killed the two deer as well.

I also really did nothing to work up the load, no playing with different primer, no adjustments for COL, just simple handloads.

I also get good grouping with factory 156gr Norma Oryx, Alaska or Vulkan out of the same rifle. Love it, my go to gun.
