Canadian Forces Special Run 1911 - NOT PARA

My $.02 worth - it's GHEY to restrict it only to active service personnel.

1) The more you sell the cheaper it will be.
2) There are TONS of RCMP/CBSA/DND Civ/CSIS ppl who make serious contributions to the defense of Canada and it's dumb (IMHO) not to make them elligible because of point 1.
3) Some weekend-warrior navy reservist doing shore duty with the GG guard in Ottawa gets to buy one, but a LEO or DND Civ or Defence contractor who actually sails/flies/or has boots on the ground in A-stan is excluded? C'mon. Dumb.

Or in my case, I have a service number from spending under a year at RMC but never served outside a schools setting. I've spent far more time contributing to the CF as a civi, but I qualify on the former but not on the latter? Double-dumb.

Just my $.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

Don't worry if it's built they will eventually come up here on the EE. So some lonely old contractor can buy one for the price of new or more if they want.................................:p:D

Blasphemy!!

Only be interested if it was in 9mm.
You said it first, therefore...........;)

A 9mm version on a 1911 frame would also be of interest to me.

I concur, Military, Current or Honourably retired.

(Membership has it's privledges...and responsibilities. If you weren't entitled to a military discount on something, would you still try and claim it?? Could you stand in front of a guy getting off the plane in Trenton and explain yourself to him?)
Ideas to consider:

1. Service number as S/N

2. Perhaps a maple-leaf on the front-strap of the pistol (harken back to the old Lend-Lease Inglis's?) a bit of history brought forward into modern times.

3. Unit/Command cap-badge engraved on the slide?

4. Maple-leaf engraved on slide?

There can be TOO much "bling" on some of the "commemoratives", so perhaps a more muted statement can be made?

I would prefer a non-painted finish (parkerizing please!) because with use the paint will just chip and peel off.

NS

Perhaps the grip could be customized a bit, something engraved?

I am not in the military nor have I ever been. Having said that, I still feel I should be given a sweet uniform and a military pension. May as well throw one of these guns in while you are at it. I think what makes it special is that it is only for servicemen and women, otherwise it is just another 1911.

Some servicemen used the 1911 in the Great War. Today we use the BHP (since WW2 of course). Would it not have made more sense to contact Browning (FN) about a BHP? If it must be the 1911 then why not a 1911 reproduction from Colt? The examples I saw in this thread have been highly modified pistols that seem in no way military. Simple is best; a repro 1911 would be more appropriate if you were to take your inspiration from Canadian history.

This would have to be something of a reasonably high quality, with at least some type of unique feature on it. If i'm gonna buy something with my service # on it I don't want just some cheap ol 45 with a CF stamp on the side of it. I don't mind paying for quality.

I think SVI is tops but Dlask builds some very nice customs too, and they are Canadian, which is at least part of the theam here. We should contact them both to see what kind of deal each is willing to offer.

I think maby a couple of caliber options should be available. 45 seems to be popular so far. I for one have no desire to ever own a 45 but a 40 or 10mm would be for me.

What do you guys think of laser grips as an option?

I like the idea of a Dlask 1911 in .45. The service number, branch of service and maple leaf would be awsome, but I wouldn't want much more on the gun. Is there any idea of what pricing would be? I'll start saving my pennies, but if it's too expensive I'll have to pass.
