Any interest? Savage "Bush Carbine"

I thought I remember him saying it'd be a year before it would even start being made. If it starts.
Squished my idea of having one for the fall season as well.

Since the other thread is showing signs of soon descending into anarchy I'll put my 2C in here in case it's missed there.

Since anyone can cut down a gun to 18.5, I vote for the 16 inch. It's unique and can't be had elsewhere. I also think irons would be nice, of any kind. Don't like them? Don't use them or remove them. It's a nice feature to have, and if you're going through the trouble of mounting a scope you're either handy enough to deal with the irons, or you're paying a gunsmith who can easily remove them.

Also, since stevens makes a 7mm-08 model 200, that would interest me too. Further lessen the recoil and use the better ballistic co. to make up a little for shorter barrel/lower muzzle velocity. Plus I like the lesser recoil...

I'm not sure why CanAm didn't consider including a left hand action with this order. Savage has been advertising for a long time that they were the "first" to manufacture a left hand bolt action rifle for hunters. If Savage isn't willing to do this for potential customers then they are falling short on their advertising. And loose out on potential sales. Also, if CanAm can't convince them to do the lefties along with the right handed action, then that's a slap in the face for the left handed consumer of a product that is being requested. And there is no need to continue to read up on this thread. Also, the questionaire should have been more extensive. As I have read that some potential customers want different calibers other then the 308. I've seen a request for 7mm08, 223, and the 39. Also, some customers asked for hinged floorplate. Another good caliber for consideration would be a 7-30 Waters with Hornady Evolution for reduced recoil, for starters. And the 18 or 18.5 inch barrel would probably be the best of both worlds.

how the hell is he supposed to bring an inexpensive product to market when you have 1000 different options?

~10% of the population is lefty, sorry, but not worth the effort for a small minority.

Sounds like a great project, why don't you get on it!

Still very early days. If it happens it will be many months away.

This is his last update in case anyone was wondering... it had been a while since I read it (last Feb.)and so I couldn't remember what the last update was and had to go looking.

Wasn't that hard really but could have been avoided.

maybe the update should be updated to

Might not happen could be years.....

Thanks! Too bad... I'd been hoping for a fun little sporter carbine... sub-18.5 inch barrel would be really unique. Plus there would finally be a gun that the gf could shoulder and aim without needed to do bicep curls for a month beforehand.

Hey Wally,

I ended up buying one of those Savage Edge's, I loped off the barrel to 18 1/2", plopped a Red Dot on top instead of the Scope it came with. It is a nice light Bush Carbine, I would rather it be 16" but it is the best I could come up with. It was cheap, got it on Sale at a local dealer for $319 + tx, so $360 and change!

Just an idea if you are looking for something cheap, light and fairly short for the interim!

Oh yeah, .308 Cal..
