6.5x55

I've owned more 6.5x55 rifles than any other. The most accurate have been the Rem 700 Classic and Tikka. Sold the Tikka because I hate the plastic stock. The Rem 700 will be with me until I die and the last rifle to go in my collection. Still have my M38 Husky.

Not as well as the modern actions, at least not the one I had. 2650 fps is the most I could do without "overt " pressure signs on my old Swede. It shot really well and there really was no need to push it any faster.

I push my Tikka M-65 Harder because it shoots better that way. I get a good 100 fps extra out of it over of the old "96".

I found iin some times it depends on the ammo, Norma is spot on for case dimensions while Federal and Winchester ammo is spec case dimensions.

If you're talking about Factory ammo, yes the Norma stuff is a lot hotter.

The only ammo I use is the stuff assembled in my basement so i cant comment any further.

The brass I use makes a a big difference. The lighter winchester brass will take more powder as opposed to remington . Ive never tried the pricey Euro stuff....dont' think Ill drop that kind of coin on a piece of brass for a hunting rifle.

I'm seriously considering taking up hunting in the new year, and the 6.5x55SE really does appeal. I'm curious if it is an appropriate rifle for Ontario? The few hunters I know have told me they tend to push the bush, and they prefer .30-30 level actions and semi-autos. Personally I don't intend to hunt anything larger than a deer for the first few years.

Thanks,

I am from Ontario and use a Norwegian Krag 6.5x55 that was made in 1917 with Remington Express 140gr core-lokt soft point ammo. This combination makes for a great deer gun. I am in the market for another Krag if anyone out there has one they want to get rid of.
