Not as well as the modern actions, at least not the one I had. 2650 fps is the most I could do without "overt " pressure signs on my old Swede. It shot really well and there really was no need to push it any faster.
I push my Tikka M-65 Harder because it shoots better that way. I get a good 100 fps extra out of it over of the old "96".
I found iin some times it depends on the ammo, Norma is spot on for case dimensions while Federal and Winchester ammo is spec case dimensions.
I'm seriously considering taking up hunting in the new year, and the 6.5x55SE really does appeal. I'm curious if it is an appropriate rifle for Ontario? The few hunters I know have told me they tend to push the bush, and they prefer .30-30 level actions and semi-autos. Personally I don't intend to hunt anything larger than a deer for the first few years.
