Ruger 1022 vs Blazer ammo, KABOOM!

I was out at the range today fiddling with a new 10/22. It's a Dlask Barrel and Dlask receiver. I was feeding it different types of ammo to see what it was going to like. After 3 or 4 other brands I cracked a box of Blazer .22 Long and lined up the target. I pulled the trigger and there was a huge bang! Like my ears are still ringing and its been 6 hours! I got a face full of debris and the magazine shot out of the bottom of the rifle. Oh and there was a bunch of smoke. I was not amused. After some internet reading I have found a number of people whom have experienced the same fun that I have. Examples:

There are more on other sites, using a regular 10/22 and blazer ammo!

So I guess this is me letting other folks know that they may want to avoid the Blazers, especially if you have a Dlask barrel. I know I will!

ive emailed blazer twice with no response. im off that crap ammo for good. seems it likes to not quite chamber all the way in the dlask barrels. winchester xpert or any of the remmington brands work without a hitch.
 
I tried using Blazer in a Ruger single Six revolver and there was a huge build-up of lead in the barrel,switched to CCI Standard Velocity target and the problem was solved.
 
I still use Blazer in my Browning Buckmark but I had to double check it after reading this thread...the bore was clear and good to go but I will keep a close eye on it. Blazer is fairly hot ammo compared to Standard Velocity so I am going to try the Standard Velocity in my Buckmark next time out and see if it will cycle properly if so it might save wear and tear on the gun.
 
i also had this happen last trip to the range with my dar10/22 with 2 rounds of blazer.

the fragments of brass hit shooter next to me lucky he had his eye protection on gave him a bit of a scare
 
Never had a problem in the 10/22 with blazers(fired thousands upon thousands), they in fact feed quite well in mine compared to anything remington. I have a standard barrel though, is it only a problem with the dlask barrels?.
 
I was told straight out by Dr.Lector ... DO NOT USE BLAZERS in your Dlask Barrels. They will ruin the barrel, and as the posts have shown, other things may happen. I've had several FTF using them and I stopped trying after about 50rds and switched to Federal and AE.
 
The issue with Blazers is the bullet coating. Look at it closely; it looks more like a lacquer than a lube. If you want cheap, stick with Federal Champion or American Eagle...
 
I've found the Blazers to be very dirty in the bore, chamber area and bolt face even in bolt guns. This tells me that the casing doesn't expand to the bore very well (hard brass) and that rim thickness is probablly too small (excessive head space).

I don't use them anymore either and with these pictures, and posts, I won't use them ever again.

Yes those are the ones. I got mine at Canadian tire.

Well I know that now! I've also been told to stay away from stingers. Any other ammo flavors I should be avoiding? I have about a dozen different types at home right now. I really like the Remington yellow Jackets, they made an amazingly tight group but damn were they loud compared to everything else!

Not sure about other ammo types. But anything HV other than Blazers seem to be the ones that the good Dr. had mentioned. He had mentioned something about the Hyper ones but I have long since deleted that pm. As someone above mentioned, the "cheap" ammo works great in mine and I get some good shooting out of them. I don't use my SR for target shooting unless I am plinking away "zeroing" whatever sights I am using, so I am not worried about super tight groups. Minute of Death is all I worry about and I get that rather well with Remington and American Eagle.
