AR pricing OMG!

If by 'materials', you mean DPMS lpk's, they do not even come close to the very best US made products.

I keep hearing this, but where is the objective proof?

DPMS makes almost none of their LPK parts themselves from what I have read. They buy their parts from other AR parts manufacturers - usually small jobber machine shops that have been contracted for parts runs by government agencies.

I've bought several of their LPK's over the years and it's obvious they parts are from different manufacturers just from kit to kit, but I've never had a low quality part come from them.

That being said, I usually replace the trigger, hammer and safety in their kits because: a) I like ambi safeties b) I like 2-stage trigger/hammer assemblies.

Still waiting for someone to explain how they are inferior. It's not like Colt MPI's their triggers or makes them out of gold or anything. All critical AR LPK parts are made of medium grade steel, hardened, and either blued or parked. Minimal machining with a lot of as-cast surfaces.

I've always wanted an AR. Price for a quality firearm is not the issue for me I just have no room in my safe for a restricted rifle not when there are plenty of alternatives like XCR, Swiss, Tavor, FN PS90 and the one I purchased, the HK SL8.

I still can't deny the desire for an AR though, just don't want a range only rifle.

I bought my first non restricted Colt Sporter back in the day for $700.00 It was basically a civilian M16A2 semi auto, COLT!
Oh Yeah, 30 round mags were not an issue.....

Oh, you can still get all that....just not in Canada. Your sporter HAS gone up a bit though,...it's now $899.99

CMMG or S&W M&P - $849.00

Colt 6920 - $1049.00

Para complete upper - $299.99

FN FS2000 - $1399.99

+1 ctspring makes small parts for many, many LPK retailers, the same stuff goes to different mfg to be re-packaged.

How come Norinco can produce an AR...

Because chinese manufacturers ignore things like patents, have non-existant labour laws or safety standards, make #### using the cheapest possible components without any concern over quality, and routinely do things like add poisonous melanine to baby formula to make it pass protein requirements...

Why can I buy a wrist watch at the dollar store for a buck yet those #######s at rolex think they can sell watches for thousands and thousands of dollars?

Maybe you should get them to change your alias... If you can't tell the difference between norinco made-in-china crap and precision made and engineered piece of kit then you're not much of an "operator".

The best is people selling used 180B on EE for the same price as a brand new benelli Mr1...

Barf...

Personally, I think the MR1 is BARF. I would rather have (and actually do have) a 180B over the MR1 ;)

The stock 180B should not be worth the asking prices these days, but they ARE selling at that price - so who am I to argue to the contrary?

Chinese makers are making them for FAR less than $700. Factor in shipping, profit, import, etc. and they are likely making them for under $300.

It's ALL about labour cost differences and probably less attention to things like fit and finish and QA/QC operations.

That being said, here in Canada we pay far too much for imported AR's. I cannot wait until NEA offers a sub-$1000 Canadian M4-tyle AR15.

LMFAO..... I guess it's hard to tell the Norinco's from the US manufacturers on Call of Duty

I agree that we overpay - thats a function of the dealers charging what the market will bear.

I would rather pay for quality than buy a cheap POS chinese knock off of an AR. Look at all the aimpoint knockoffs and other crap some people sell up here... Would you rather one of those or a proper aimpoint?

Speaking of quality. Incremental increases in quality and tighter tolerances do no make for a linear increase in price. Moving from something that has a .050 variance to something with a .005 variance is a big jump in price.

I'll reserve any opinions on NEA until I see the fit/finish of one.

People have to have and pay top dollar for 'milspec' you have no idea the amount of PTSD incurred from a figure-11 at 50 meters with a 5 round magazine.......the horror........the horror

So If the Chinese models are so crap, why do so many members here rave about them? Is there a big quality difference between the American models and the Chinese? I have heard only the finish is inferior, is there anything else? Or have there not been enough rounds through the chinese M4 to see if there will be issues with the rifle. Also Does Norinco not sell these rifle to countries who supply there armies? Would they not have some sort of standard test before securing these rifles for there troops? Not sure but I imagine Canada would not be the only market for these M4s.

Yah, I kinda wish I held onto mine a while longer for those sorts of prices...

No real army is going to buy and issue anything built by norinco. They are a consumer product intended to be offered for sale to people looking for a low end AR. That said I figure in a few years they will be an increasingly common sight in africa as the AKMs die out and China increases their sphere of influence and customer base.
