Help out a beginner female shooter with her norc lever .22

Well its 2am and i finally finished cleaning this son #####.

I couldnt remove the barrel and everything from the wood, damn norcs but i took the gun apart as much as i could. I soaked the barrel half of the gun and the stock and action part of the firearm in boiling water mixed with dawn soap.

30 minutes later all the greese was off. I wiped the gun down, and washed it again in cold water. Hand and air dried everything. Oiled up the action barrel etc. Wood oil on the stock and put it together.

Just to make sure i out everything together right i cycled a couple rounds and it worked pretty good.

I am very pleased with my self, took me 2 and a half hours but i got the job done.

Thank you to everyone for your advice and support.

Nice work Sig Girl!

Keep your eye out for a deal on a cheap air compressor.....they make cleaning and oiling the inner hard to reach areas a lot easier!

How do you like your Nork Lever action? The recent ones look pretty nice...

it's cosmoline - it stops rust but also stops actions. Take wood off and let is soak overnight in Varsol. It will dilute the Cosmoline and then you can wipe it off. Hot water will also work but could cause rust. WD40 also works but it will need at least a can to work the stuff off.

Hey,

I just bought a norc .22 lever gun online. I have so many questions and hopefully someone can help me.

When the gun came it came in a box with orangey yellow goop all over it. It smells funny and really sticky. It it is all over the gun, even the inside workings of it .

How do i clean it out? What do i clean it out with? The manual it came with was covered in the goop and it is unreadable.

If you can give me step by steps what i should do and maybe a list of things i need to get this job done i will be forever grateful. When i am done i will post pics.

Thanks,
Becca

Trust me. It isn't easy to read either way.

I like it so far. Makes me feel like a cowboy when i run the action. :p

I have an air compressor, how would it aid me in cleaning gunk of future rifles?

I prefer canned air for electronics. Finer stream of air, no noise and it fits under coffee table.

Well if any future rifles are not a Norc. they won't be half as bad too clean
Good going have fun.

You can use the air to blow the solvent into the inner workings and blow it out or to help dry the metal inside if you've dunked it in hot water.
Then when you oil in there as well you can use the air to force the oil in and also blow out the excess oil because you don't want it "wet" with oil just lightly coated...

It's a bit messy so I usually set up a shield of large pieces of cardboard behind to catch the spray.

I hope the effort was worth it. I don't buy that brand. Quality firearms come protected with a moderate amount of high quality protective lubricant. You need to wear protective gloves and eye wear when working with solvents. If you didn't be sure you REALLY REALLY wash your hands thoroughly with soap now that you are done.

Hey Sig Girl, now that you've cleaned it, have you fired it? I decided to get one from Moreguns, too. I'm having the occasional feeding problems. Ran into any of those? Also, which model did you get? My didn't come with a manual and it says JW-21A on the side.

Yah, i am having feeding problems to. i hope after the break in period it gets better.

OKAY. I spent half a day working on this. The model I have is the JW-21A which is a slightly shorter model (37.5") than the JW-21 (39") and also has a barrel band and different sights. They are copies of the Winchester 9422 Legacy so you can download those manuals and they'll work. Just like the 9422, they can eat .22LR, L, S, but unlike the Legacy, this sob is all messed up.

First off, my receiver is out of spec with one side lower than the other and my scope groove is over cut on one side and off center. No matter, I can use irons EXCEPT, the rear sight is crooked. The sights still work to some degree, but I'm going to have to hammer the s**t out of her to straighten it. Of course, the main problem is the feeding issue. *BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE FOLLOWING, CLEAN THE RIFLE WELL. ALL OF IT. THEN FOLLOW THE UPCOMING ADVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Take out your bolt and slide a .22 case along it. If the case slides smoothly then this isn't a problem and you should clean the carrier springs and the top of the receiver more thoroughly. Make sure to also clean the gunk around the breech so that the bolt can slide in without a glitch.

If your .22 case doesn't slide through well, it may need some work. As you slide your case through (red circled bit), note all the resistance points. These parts need some filing. For me, I had to file bits of the guide and part of the bolt face. The green circle was originally on my bolt and I'm pretty sure it's not suppose to. After filing CAUTIOUSLY until the case when through without much resistance, the rifle fed without a hiccup. NOTE: DO NOT OVER DO IT, it was only slightly off and I used a jewelers filing set.

Hopefully that helps. These guys need serious cleaning and the lever retaining spring is stiff so it's gonna be hard on the hands on return. Have to work that out over time, though. Oh Norinco. Needing Operational Repair Is Normal Condition Objective. I'm calling her Maryna after one of my ex girlfriends. Lot of work for results. :D

EDIT: This problem does not reflect all JW-21 or JW-21A. Mine is more or less, a lemon.

Why buy a Chinese badly built copy of a firearm that for a bit more money you can get the real thing and peace of mind? If there is anything that buying cheap and getting unreliable can have disastrous consequences on it is a firearm.
