12.5 grizzly with pistol grip length

I beg to differ.
They are non restricted with a regular butt stock, same as the Grizzley 8.5".
He told me, as a verifier the measurement is taken from the muzzle. It doesn't matter what you add after that.

I believe this rule is taken from when the M1 carbines were used as the measurement for 18" restricted. For a time, it was acceptable to weld on a tip to make them non restricted. This didn't sit with the banners agenda, so it became a contiguous rifling criteria. In other words, you couldn't just weld on a tube, it had to be rifled.
Good luck with that.

And here we are.

Although your help was probably the best anyone could ask for, and is greatly appreciated...

I'm surprised none of the "upstanding" members here made comments about whether or not you called Miramichi to notify them you were putting on that pistol-grip for the picture...

The members here know the law. Not that the firearms laws make any sense.

Please read. Maybe this will help too.

I beg to differ... Otherwise, this thread (and many others) wouldn't exist...

A speedfeed witness protection (birds head) is right around 26 inches with a 14" barrel...

Mossberg also lists their 590A1 6-shot w/pistol-grip & 14" barrel @ 26.5"...

Too bad someone wouldn't come out with a pistol-grip similar to what an AR-pistol looks like with the buffer-tube still in place.

Like this, just to get people on the non-restricted side of the 26" OAL regulation...

Offer different length tubes to accomodate different length barrels (9" tube for 8.5" barrel, 5" tube for 12.5" barrel, 1" tube for the 16" barrel)...

That doesnt really look so bad.

Just cut down a rifle buffer tube (not the carbine one) and cap the end. You could turn something down to 7/8 and pin it in place through the tube and it would be quite solid. You could also make a spot to store an extra shell if you found a way to make a resealable lid.

If you wanted to ensure that tube never fell off though, you would have to pin through the threads of the tube itself into the stock. There's no end plate or castle nut for that type of tube. Shouldnt be a big deal to drill a 1/8 hole into the plastic stock in the right spot and tap in a roll pin.

Or you can just crank it down with a strap wrench I guess.

I have no clue what the threads for the buffer tube are. If I had the right die I could just cut a pistol tube down and re-thread it.

Perhaps Dominion Arms would make 14" barrels for there Grizzly shotguns. Hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more:)

Of course one of those Mossbergs would be nice too!

Well they are already made(HP9-1) so they could just import the barrels like they are doing with the 12.5's...
The 14 inch Norinco barrels come up on the EE every so often for around $100-$150.

A "bird's head" grip adds a couple of inches to a short shotgun; this is often called a "witness protection" configuration:

Though with a 14" barrel and a bird's head grip, I suspect that the above shotgun is JUST under 26"... by like 1/4" or 1/2".

That speed feed birds head grip looks like it would work beautifully on my Fabarm shorty. Who has a fair bit of speed feed stuff for sale in western canada? I'd love to get my hands on one

Could you post a link to the thread measuring the Dominion Arms Grizzly with 14" barrel and Speedfeed witness protection grip... I can't find it.

Not helpful Can-down.

I searched some more and found the thread here.

The only question is whether this is a standard 14-inch barrel, or something a bit longer.

Nice find. Appears to be a box stock 14" barrel. It would also appear the end of the tape measure isn't flush with the back of the pistol grip giving it yet another 1/4" or so worth of OAL.

I'm very surprised that it measures on the long side of 26 inches.

That thing looks like one bad-ass mohaska. Also, I think I need one.

It's because the barrel is longer.....Here's a 14" and it's 25.5" in length.

Here's a custom grip ( Grizzly Claw :D) with the same 14 inch barrel and an overall length of 26.25",

Its a stock Remington factory 14" barrel and its mine.
Placed "butt" against wall and measured shortest distance to barrel.
26.25" is what I got.
