12.5 grizzly with pistol grip length

Here's a custom grip ( Grizzly Claw :D) with the same 14 inch barrel and an overall length of 26.25",

I remember following that guys thread where he made it, you have the link for the thread?

Its got me thinking...

Its a stock Remington factory 14" barrel and its mine.
Placed "butt" against wall and measured shortest distance to barrel.
26.25" is what I got.

Can you take a picture showing the full length of the tape above the barrel? What is the choke mark on the barrel? Modified?
Your Remington barrel looks a bit longer then the Norinco 14 incher and doesn't have the typical Remington pedestal under the bead....

Seems that maybe there is some variation from one manufacturer to the next, in terms of receiver length and/or barrel length. The upshot of this is that a 14" 870 with bird's head grip will be right around 26", and you may need to add stock spacer to keep it legal.

Anyone that deals with speedfeed should be able to order it.
MD Charlton has had them in the past but I'd try an email directly to speedfeed and ask them how you can buy their products in Canada....

If you're sure they're the same, any idea's how to get it to the legal length? Stock spacer or sling plate?

Thanks
Stony

Sling plate won't get you there it will only add about 3/16" or so....you could build up the back of the grip or screw an eye bolt in the back I guess or you could make a longer grip out of wood using a beater 870 stock like in the picture above.....

A 15 inch barrel would be nice.

I haven`t done this myself, but I`ve heard of guys adding 2 or 3 sling plates, (plus a new longer bolt), in order to reach the required 660mm overall length.

Each sling plate adds about 1/8". If you have to add 3 sling plates, things apparently start to get wobbly. (Perhaps they could be JB-Weld'ed together or something.)

Screw it into the back and you have a bubba approved single point sling attachment and the over all length you are looking for....

That eye screw would probably be enough to keep you out of jail.

Though I wouldn`t rely on it myself.

The laws around this are so silly...in a way I'd enjoy going in front of a judge and laying down a rem 870 14" with the speedfeed on it that measures 25.5 inches and then laying down a Rossi Ranch hand that measures 24" and ask him to explain how the shorter one is considered non restricted and the longer one is prohibited......

If the "man" was busting my balls because I had a homemade grip or sling loop that made the overall length greater then 26" I'd be even more disappointed in our overlords!

I bought a 16" remington barrel a few years ago that had been chopped down by the police or border officials at some point ( they are legally allowed to do this unlike us) and it was a real handy length. At some point someone at the CFC became aware of these 16" barrels that had been sold as surplus to the general public and decided that they all needed to be destroyed in the name of public safety and following stupid rules that make no sense..... They ordered me to turn it in for destruction but after I told them I would see them in court ( and did for the first hearing) they then told me that I could keep the barrel and that it would only be prohibited if I attached it to my receiver....I re registered the gun with a shorter 14" factory barrel and that satisfied the CFC. They didn't want me to have a 16"(legally cut by the "man") barrel but were fine with a 14" or 12.5"!
These laws make no sense and are outdated but there is now mechanism for fixing stupid legislation in our Country and the system can only pile on more rules and regulations instead of fixing the BS!
Pretty sad really and just the tip of the iceberg of dumb legislation that makes no practical sense!

How about a mag extension/breaching standoff? Not only looks cool, but also handy when you forget your house keys... :D

You can't legally add length to the barrel to change the overall length even if it's welded on..... don't ask why me why?

The overall length rules for longguns and handguns are very poorly written!

They would have been smarter to just come up with an agreed upon over all length and leave it at that.... who cares how long the barrel is!

A 4 inch revolver is physically bigger then a semi auto with a 4.25inch barrel but it's still prohibited while the semi auto is restricted. Why? Stupid rules that make no sense!

Some of these stupid rules work in our favor and some don't but at the end of the day they are just stupid rules made by stupid people who don't understand the subject at hand but are somehow in charge of making up the rules......

Not true.

You can legally increase OVERALL LENGTH (ie. >26") of the firearm by welding an extension etc onto the barrel.

You can't, however, legally increase the BARREL LENGTH (i.e. >18.5") in this way. Though, there is no minimum barrel length for a pump shotgun anyway.
