UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

I'm starting to become depressed every time I look in my safe and realize there is no
Ranch hand in there.... But at least it is march...

Any updates on the shipment Gary? :D

Shot shells in a lever gun

Would there be any problem firing these out of a ranch hand? I was just thinking about using it as a grouse gun but I'm just not sure how well they would feed in a lever gun.

No idea on feeding - most lever guns feed pretty directly to the chamber which would help. On the other hand, would it shoot any manner of pattern that was useful? No idea.

I believe those shotshells use #11 shot or the like. They're meant for snakes and such. You can buy the plastic inserts and load your own with a heavier shot, and i'm told that the snake rounds pattern decent so that might well work.

Worth trying anyway. They HAVE to be better than 22lr shotshells :D

I've been loading shotshells with #6 shot and they pattern ok at 10 meters out of my SRH. I think they would be fine in the Mares Leg.

Of course - for grouse or the like you could just make round ball loads or just head shoot the grouse with cheap bullets and light loads. You can get bullets for 20 cents a peice in bulk, so it's still pretty cheap to pop a grouse or squirrel with. Just don't hit 'em in the body :)

haha I can just imagine that scenario, "oh SH!T!" as guts go flying about... thanks for the idea, this will definately be used on gophers this year :D

I just bought my nephew a Red Ryder BB gun. Its quite a match for the Ranch Hand. We are going to be lever gun buddies.

When we were hunting moose or deer, we'd always keep a shotgun handy in the truck just in case we saw a grouse driving into or out of the area. Dad had a shotgun belt loaded with ammo.

A buddy was in the front seat and we saw a grouse, and he asked if he could shoot it. Dad said sure, and the guy jumped out grabbing the shotgun and the ammo belt.

What dad DIDN'T remember to tell him is that the first two shells were always slugs - just in case we ran into a bear or one came into camp or the like. :D

Didn't go so well. Final score was Slugs 1 Grouse 0 and two minutes in the penalty box for dad for unnecessary roughing.

After a gun show a couple of years ago I was all depressed due to limited funds. Went straight from said show to Wally World and bought MYSELF a Red Ryder!!
Good times, noodle salad!!;}
