I'm thinking about getting the Norinco NP-22 as an inexpensive 9mm. I'd like to hear your thoughts about why I should or shouldn't go with this model. I know there are a few other Norcs out there that are cheaper but I prefer the 'sig' look of this one unless the functioning ( most important aspect) is inferior to the other Norc models?? Let me know your experience. What is the good, the bad and the ugly of this model. Also, does anyone other than Marstar carry it??
Thanks

Buy the new version (the one with the rail). So far I havent had a single problem with mine. Accurate and loves to shoot.

The old versions without the rail were made from inferior metal and prone to breakage.

my buddy has a np-22 and has had no complaints so far. i ordered the np-34 just because i like the sig p-229 . i know badger arms,surplus city,milarm in edmonton and cedar valley hunting supplies are some others that sell a lot of norinco products

I love the Sig series by Norinco and Norincos in general. I had an NP34 but sold it, they are great pistols for the money, buy the recent model with the rail and you're gold, there are a few dealers who carry them, Badger Arms is a great dealer, just look for who will get you the gun for the best price.

Good = price
Bad = older models prone to rail cracking
Good = Problem solved on newer models
Ugly = the stock grips

One more ugly...the sights (and Sig ones not fitting). Otherwise a great pistol for the price.

Is it taboo to put authentic grips on a Norinco?

Why yes, because it may cost an extra $18 for new hand carved rosewood or resin grips eBay, including shipping. The whole idea with buying a Norinco was to save money, hence spending $18 extra suddenly makes the deal worth reconsidering. :stirthepot2:

I've got Sig grips on mine...but remember that the grip screws are different (so you'll need to reuse the Norc ones). Now if I could just get the darn front sight out I could get some Trijicons in (with work...remember the dovetailing is different).

once you refinish it and get rid of the china markings, get real grips, and install proper sights, it is cheaper to buy the real deal.

Exclude the refinishing (I don't care about the China markings)...the cost isn't prohibitive if you do some searching. Grips were $20, Trijicon sights were $65, HG was $349 (plus tax/ship) and I got 7 extra mags for $150 (and they're MecGar)...still a far cry from a real Sig cost. Just gotta know how to find things...
