Edmonton-area 3-gun??? Help a newbie get out and watch/play please.

but the PR3G rules don't allow race holsters, and compensators and RDS on pistols.

Lame. Can't think of anything else to say.

No equipment limitations on rifles or shotguns as long as they remain in the same configuration from start to finish.

I don't get this one. Limitations on the pistols are strict but fill your boots on anything else. I understand you don't want twenty different divisions. My question is why have any divisions at all - just go with heavy light as mentioned.

D_,
It is what it is. Our background is different than down south so we set up things our way. I don't think there's any race guns within 100 miles of here, at least we've never had a shooter show up wanting to shoot one.

We have the two divisions because a guy shooting an M14 or Garand is at a disadvantage to a guy shooting an AR. The divisions are wide open because we've seen it's the shooter that makes the difference, not the stuff on the rifle or shotgun.

I still don't get the open gun hate. I guess I understand after shooting that last dog and pony show in where peoples jaws dropped and said it was the fastest shooting they ever seen. You know the thought of "How can I compete? I know..." comes around. But if you think I can't run an SP01 as fast or faster out if a Bladetech - your wrong.

Thanks Jared,

I'll definitely be trying to capture more video in this upcoming season :)

I'd say you were taking a few liberties in terms of the word practicality. Now that that's out of the way. :)

Each time you gripe about ghost holsters or open guns, a little kitten cries, so let me try and zen it down for you. :D

Now I know in open class, there are times where even a few tenths of a second separate the winners from losers. Suffice to say, open class guns and equipment are designed for speed first retention second.

Now you may think this is a blanket statement, but look at it this way, some shooting competitions have roots in practicality and reality. Do professionals wear ghost holsters every day? no. What they do is wear something designed for retention/comfort first speed second, such as a belt or inside the waistband holster.

No professional I know wears magnetic mag pouches, ghost holsters, and mega compensated pistol with a 2 lbs trigger pull.

Not many limitations on rifle or shotgun because there aren't too many modification/additions that can be done that would give you a significant advantage over the other. Everyone has a rifle that follows the basic formula.

I don't know why there are so many different options for pistols

You were great to shoot along side, awesome to watch, and I love you like a brother man, but I do not know why you insist on doing the soap box thing every time someone mentions the PR3G rules.

Noone hates the open guns, but maybe you open gunners are too serious!!!.

If you can run your SP01 out of a bladetech holster, why aren't you? there are plenty of other competitions out there that do allow you to run the open pistol without question. Are you not in effect, the initiator of your own frustrations?.

How about this, if you decide to run an open gun at another 3 gun, you can be subjected to the same rules and regs as everybody else, but you will not get special treatment either. Meaning, if it rains, I am coming over there and ripping your gun cozy off your pistol and you will be expected to run it in the rain exposed to the elements just like everyone else :D

I'll bring a water drum to setup a "run through the rain fall" entry on each pistol stage.:cool: ?

Edited. No one here hates your race guns but if that thought makes you feel better, run with it.

Practicality? I run the action sports to have fun. Period. I don't pretend to be Jack Baur or anything out there.

Special treatment? Where you get that fr

Bah my iPhone/fat fingers as killing me I'll respond tonight

No worries , I'll hold my breath until then :)

(special treatment means no different class for you, but you will be expected to run through mud and water ;) and I LOVE pretending like I am Jack Bauer...)

Alot of tongue in cheek humor here, take it easy on me

See what I mean about you open class guys being so serious? :p

Right now we are working with the SGGC and the CFO on some issues ref targets, but we are sure that the outcome will be good for all concerned.

GREAT news!!! I was a bit worried about those issues.

Come on out Doc, you'll have a blast!

Please have respect for my privacy and not use my name. I have never posted anything other than thanks for participation at any 3g event other than this thread so not sure of the soap box angle. You don't know me otherwise you would know I ask for no quarter. I shot the Mudbowl(USPSA Nationals) in Tulsa back in 07 under an incoming tornado with constant rain and loved it - not sure where the water angle comes from. I've been to a certain league event twice - the first I was told to beat it and wasn't allowed to participate - the second I was told I couldn't use the equipment I made very clear I was coming down with. That's hard to stomach after a four hour ride. Excuse me soap box angle - your right.

I hope nothing but the best for you guys and your leagues and all who wish to participate in them. I apologize the OP who was looking for info and had thread derailed.

Meh, no thread at CGN is complete without a little ####-measuring. Mission accomplished.

We now rejoin the 3-gun information thread, already in progress.

No harm done, no harm intended brotha D_ :)

So Doc, lets discuss some gear options for you... :D

You can tell by the vid, that people wear just about anything. The best tip I can suggest to you, is to pay attention to the course of fire!. I wrongfully engaged targets on a rifle stage at the incorrect moment and it cost me because my mind was on the camera. Intelligence -4.

My only complaint is that there is no place to "train" or "practice" for these sort of courses.

I am not even sure if any ranges allow you to bring your own steel targets.

Do you have a rifle, pistol and shotty ready to go?

I agree 100% - some of the fudds' asses get tighter than a snare drum if you bring out a plate rack or just individual "torso" steel targets.

I do have a rifle (AR15, M14, or SKS), shotty (Mossberg 500) and pistol (Glock 17 or Kimber 1911 - have more mags for the Kimber, but it's still a bit 'picky') ready to rock.

Now, as for gearing up... how I'm carrying everything around will be a subject of much debate (and hopefully suggestion) as I'd love input on what the bigger fellas like me are running. I wear a 54 Tall suit, am 6'3" and 320lbs. Think "ex football player." Ask Shotzee about the size of my shadow, lol!

So... some of the "tiny" gear out there is not going to be an option for me.

I'll be rocking the AR, mossberg 590, and Sig.

How would a cross draw vest work. 4 ar mags, 4 pistol mags. Plus whatever dump pouches Id need, is there any specific regulations? Or am I good enough as it is to get my feet wet.

As I've said before, one event I wore a full on multicam gear with mag pouches and stuff:

The next one I went to, I wore paintball pants with mags stuffed into them:

FYi, that is "Sosa" standing behind me.

Shotzee, are you talking about using a crossdraw style hoslter? I don't think that would be allowed but I can't be certain. You can potentially sweep someone with your barrel with a crossdraw.

Other than that, mags and pouches are wear what you dare!

Sounds like both of you guys have some great gear and you're all setup.

Just some dates :)

Its a leapers el cheapo vest, I can detach the holdster to wear on my
Side, until I invest the money. I spent all my dough on ammo to get to be a
Semi decent shot. ;)
