I got one on the way, we'll see how it goes $55 shipping included - I aint going to complain.

While I love the kool-aid as much as the next guy, Magpul hasn't even hinted at when (if?) the GMAGs will be available. There was originally going to be a 20-rnd and 30-rnd version (per their 2010 Catalog), but they now only list a 30-rnd version (2011 Catalog). With a USD retail price of $28, by the time one factors in pinning, import, demand, etc. you'll be looking at $60/each easily.

The Spear magazines are very high quality and incredibly rugged when compared to HK magazines (I had several G36 magazines for comparison). They are certainly not cheap, though the pictures do not necessarily do them justice (I had limited photos to work with at the time). The diffused version is similar to the G36 in texture, though not as dark in colour.

I honestly thought you guys would be all over these - especially considering this is the first time that I can ever recall where a black rifle magazine is available for the same price in Canada (and possibly less) than it is in the US. In addition, Spear was nice enough to specifically block these at 5.5-rnds (vs. the normal 5) just for the Canadian market.

I've got samples out in the mail for testing, so I'm sure some real-world feedback will be available soon enough.
 
Spear Magazines: First Look

I received samples in black, clear and diffused (black and diffused are my favourites).
Here are the specifications:

30-round (diffused): 183 grams | 185mm x 70mm x 22mm
10-round (black): 93 grams | 80mm x 70mm x 22mm
10-round (clear): 83 grams | 80mm x 70mm x 22mm

The polymer for the clear magazine weighs slightly less than that of the solid or diffused.

Could be me but those clear mags get me thinking. You could take a picture of a stack of rounds, print on paper, place inside, assemble. It LOOKs like it is full, but it is not.

The 10-round are less than half the weight, so there is that to consider. I'm looking into the possibility of a smoked/darker diffused colour with Spear, similar to a Lancer L5 and a bit closer to the standard HK magazine. It would have a bright red follower and black base plate.

Yes, thanks CNADNSL8-5 - I did want to point out that both the 10-round and 30-round magazines are available in black, bright red, diffused and clear - with your choice of black or red followers and/or baseplates. Spear just overnighted me one sample of each colour so I'd have something in-hand for some initial testing and a review.

Those mags look sharp, good work bringing them in, they are an awesome alternative to the G36 mags!

Did you have any release date???? I was about to change my SL8 Rail and I curious to know what you mean when you said "about to release"? Weeks? Months???
