And you deserve what you get when the Big Lad is standing out 250 quartering away.
Quartering away....Perfect! I wouldn't hesitate to take that shot.I actually prefer a quartering away shot.

It's because of these "sportsmen" that some provinces have had to make laws prohibiting the use of game crippling calibres. I hope that never happens here, but one thing I do know - bring a pop gun to most of the deer camps I have been to, and you wont be hunting with it. Kind of a self policing policy.
Maybe I will try it then....as long as I can keep my shot placement in the lungs and
between the ribs.
Those that dont' wish to....well, just don't do it. Use whatever makes you happy.
you da man!!![]()
Lose the debate - LOL - for normal relatively intelligent sportsmen with a reasonable respect for the game we harvest - there is no debate. But I guess you being a masterdebater par excellence I expect everything is about you and your debate.
And you must truly have some deficiencies - you started the trash talk.
Here on the internet we have all the perfect little snipers supreme looking down there cyber noses at anyone not willing to risk wounding an animal suffering a lingering death because of a calibre choice.

It's sort of like flying, ensure you have enough fuel for your flight, plus a reserve. And because some pilots are not smart enough to realize that is a good policy, they had to make laws.( And some still run out, hey Redfrog, you fly??).
Just curious as to what these camps call a "pop" gun???![]()
Same can be said for any caliber. If you can't hit what you are aiming for then go golfing.

So does that mean a bigger hole in his ear, ankle, or what?
Bigger caliber does not kill deader than a smaller adequate one when placed where it should be.
No silly that is not what I meant what I meant was if you hit it in the ass because the game animal spun around just as you squeezed off the shot instead of wounding it the larger/heavier bullet would penetrate enough to kill it...

Got it. That's why the wannabe Rambos get the big flinch makers instead of learning how to shoot. It compensates for their short comings.
Then there are those like me that learnt how to shoot and progressed up to the more powerful rifle/cartridge combo's over years because we don't flinch with these combo's like some that are afraid of them.
Its sounding to me like that is your issue...

I have shot enough deer to know when to pass a bad shot. Even more so with a .223.
At 300plus yards, then reach for the larger calibers. You wouldn't change a headlight with a hammer or drive a spike with a battery powered screwdriver.
Use the tool that is easiest and gets the job done. Pretty simple really.
Hope this helps.![]()
