I'm interested in a 300 mag (or 300 Ultra mag) and I'm interested in two rifle the Ruger M77 African in 300 win mag or the Remington 700 BDL in 300 win mag or 300 ultra mag, the Remington has a 26" barrel but the Ruger only 23", any advices?

No offence, but I think if you have to ask that question you'd be better off with the 300WinMag.

It will do anything you'll ever need it for. More factory ammo at a better price. Brass is a lot cheaper for loading and way less powder and recoil.

No offence at all ;) and I think you're right.

That 26" barrel won't hurt either. Muzzle flash and noise out of the 23" wouldn't be pleasant. If you insist on a magnum, go with the .300 Win.

The 300 WinMag is a great choice. It's a manageable magnum. The 300 Ultra was designed for guys with an inferiority complex.

I love the older Remingtons but am disappointed with many of the newer Rem 700 line. That said, I am less disappointed with the 700 than I am with the Ruger 77.

Take a peek at the newest lineup from Winchester. The new Model 70s are much better rifles than either the Rugers or the Remingtons, but still in the same price range. Plenty of choices in 300 WinMag.

Both are very nice guns. My preference goes to the Ruger M77 though. I would stick with the .300 win mag. No need for anything bigger.

Its may be look strange but I'm interested in a rifle with iron sights and the only 70 with iron sights is the Safari model chambered in .375 H&H, .458 Win mag and .416 Rem mag, that's a gun for guys with an inferiority complex ;)

I have an older Rem 700 BDL (1993 production) in .300 WM with a 24" barrel. I really like it! These sometimes appear on the used rack. Another option would be to get a new Model 70 Sporter or Super Grade, which are beautiful rifles, and have a gunsmoth install the iron sights of your choice. Still another option would be to look for a used Model 70 in .300 WM, which has iron sights and a 24" barrel. My .30-'06 is such a rifle (pre-64) and I love it too.

It has been about four years since I bought a new 700 so I can't comment on their quality, but the half dozen or so Ruger 77s purchased over the last two years certainly missed the quality control inspector.
Also the scope rings supplied with the rifles have been pathetic to say the least.
I really like the Ruger rifles, just disappointed in their workmanship... or lack thereof.

I dunno, with the older M77 models, I always said the only part of the rifle worth keeping was the action. The new Hawkeyes seem to be much better overall. Ruger QC seems to have gone up on the M77 in my experience, while Remington's has gone down. I'd hold a new M77 and a Model 70 in a direct comparison and whichever felt best would go home with me. If money allowed, I'd also suggest handling a CZ 550.

Regardless, .300 Winchester Magnum is a solid performer and would be my choice for .30-cal magnums.

Yeah the CZ 550 are really good guns but they are a little more expensive but I will take a serious look at them.

There is an old saying, "You get what you pay for."

If I were shopping for a new .300 mag, I'd look at the CZ-550 or the Winchester Model 70, and don't sweat an extra $100 or $200 bucks. Better quality; not just that, great value.

I think the CZ-550 and M-70 are the best bang-for-your-buck, on the market today.

There seems to be a bit of a glut of 300WinMags on the market now and then, probably given the success of the 300WSM. I'd look for a used one on the EE. Either a Ruger, Winchester or older 700. All are good rifles.

That 100-200 bucks becomes 300-400 bucks with rings and basses, that come with the Ruger.

I want a rifle with iron sights no need of bases, rings and the expensive scope. Demonical you're right extra $100 or $200 for a CZ worth it and the CZ are really nice. Bearhunter 338-06 why a .338 mag over a .300 mag?
