Most accurate .22 without breaking the bank??

I have fired a .22 and .17 on the same day from the same bench and in a 10 mph crosswind, the lighter .17 drifts much more at distance. at 50 yds. there was no real difference, but I seldom shoot that short .

The 17hmr drifts less in the wind than either the 22lr or the 22wmr.

Like most ballistic charts I'd have to say that is horse####. In my experience I find that whatever is represented in ballistic charts is usually the opposite in reality. I have had the same experience as the above poster.

My results shooting at 100 yards have the 17mach2, and the 17hmr both drifting noticeably less than a 22lr. Shooting was done one after the other on the same day.

Different ammo can cause that also. The three .22s I used fired the same ammo. All did about the same grouping. But you are comparing a cartridge that has almost double the powder and smaller bullet. Try it at 150 or 200 as I have. Quite a difference between the 17mach2. and .22 at that distance......No thanks I will stick with my lowly .22 .

So moral of the story is...there's many choices of quality economical 22lr rifles out there but savage seems to be at the top of the list. Also, there are lots of rumors and bias opinions about the 17hmr but there's no doubt that it is a fast little round. And if you claim to make fist size groups past 300yds with iron sights..take pictures to avoid the bs flag. I do want to know what squirrel eye lid taste like now for some reason.

Just WOW:eek: I am calling big time :bsFlag: on this one. Looks like I should be able to sell off my Anshutz prone rifle and stop wasting good .308 match ammo in my $4000 custom built target rilfe, if you can get this kind of accuracy out of a clone Remington Nylon at 300 yards:rolleyes:
Maybe he meant 300 FEET??!!:p
I can't believe some of the stuff people post on here , thinking that no one would ever question it!!!
Crap, here I thought he was at least going to say something like "model 52 Winchester" or "1418 Anschutz" hoping someone would not blink, but a REMINGTON 66 at 300 yards??!!:HR:
I as well know obviously NOTHING about small bore shooting!!
