Most accurate .22 without breaking the bank??

Consider a Vintage Mossberg.

They are surprisingly accurate, and usually reasonably priced at most gunstores in Canada.

I like the look of the Toz that is pictured above as well.

The Mark II is amazing. Most accurate rimfire that one of the gun mags ever tested.

My Marlin 60 would surprise 85% of you too, I'm sure. Paid <$200 for it new.

i used to own a remington nylon clone made by cbc of brazil. a guy near yarmouth nova scotia used to bring them in once in a while. at 300 yards with open sights you could put all your rounds in a group the size of your fist, if you did your part right. i miss that gun.

At the range you describe i would have to call that the most bullsxxt story i ever heard. At 300 yards the front sight would be bigger than the target in sight picture. If anyone believes this story you aught to hear the one about the mouse that knocked up the elephant at the zoo.;)

Pffft! I used to head-shot squirrels with my factory 10/22 at 500 yards; usually got them right in the eye too. I always tried to time the shot between blinks cause I didn't want to waste the eyelid meat. :D

On the run??:p:p

Savage MKII for a bolt and marlin 795 for a semi.
this was 60 yards. left side is 36gr wincherster 555 packs right sight is winchester 40gr powerpoint top is the marlin bottom is the savage. All from the bench, with front supported.
center was screwing around freehand.
Target is just printed on a computer page so 8x11 or something like that.

Marlin has a 4x bushnell rimfire scope i've had for 10 years or more, was origionally on the Mark II. marlin is only a year old

Savage has a 3/9 cheapo bushnell rimfire scope on it now. I've had the savage for over 10 years and still shoots pretty tight groups with cheapo ammo. Gophers never knew what hit em.

I would have liked to have witnessed that.!!

My savage mark 2 is shockingly accurate. It's just the cheap one with the accu-trigger and the sporter barrel. It's pretty impressive, especially for the price!

My marlin 60 is actually shockingly accurate too. Not as accurate as the savage, mind you, but very very good for a semi.

I would recommend either of these rifles and they're both under $200. Hell, buy both!

cz 452, i would also consider 17HMR

I've looked into a 17..and have moments where I know that's the rimfire i want. But then I have other moments were I think about cost. 17hmrs are hard to come by used and under 300 bucks (scoped rifles that is). Plus I think the cost difference of ammo is close to five bucks per 50 rounds. Also, I heard its finicky in the wind. But then again..I think that for target shooting you can't beat the 17hmr..wanting tight groups that is. However, I also think about killing power. So for me, the verdict is still out on this one. But I'm leaning toward a 22wmr. Purely because of cost. If I have 2" or 1/2" groups..either way shooting is fun.

And to those who are thinking I should get a 22lr because I'm worried about cost..well, maybe you are right. Its a personal decision to choose between 17hmr and 22wmr. I'm just torn between the pros and cons of either one of them. It might be all a matter of personal choice. Who knows.
