If Norinco had a clone of the pre 64 Winchester model 70 built, would you buy one?
Mike
Well, they made a few as I referred to above.
Trust me, there were no hand fitted parts.
For the most part, NOT INTERESTED!! For example, my pride & joy levergun/caliber combo is my model 71 deluxe in 348WCF.

I wouldn't mind using the 71 action for a custom in say 50 cal but I'm not interested in bastareizing something classic to get one. However, my buddy has a Browning 71 reproduction, now that I'd use as the basis for a custom 50.
i think i'll chime in here... when i was in the market for a lever action i bought a NEW winchester model 70 30-30carbine but it was made in china, turned out to be the worst piece of crap i bought, i quickly sold it. after that i went looking for an aged win 70 30-30 carbine made in the US, found one and the quality is exceptionally better, better metal better wood better everything. not sure how norinco would do, but im staying away from china stuff at least for now...
By golly, I did not know that Winchester made a Model 70 in .30-30, or in a carbine for that matter. And I had no idea that Winchester moved any of their production to China either. The things I learn on this forum!

.Oops, they were both 94 win carbines, sorry my mistake.
That does make more sense to me, for sure - but seriously, I had not heard that Winchester had ANY guns made in China, including the 94s???????????
Doug

.Time for me to chime in again..........someones gotta stir the pot.
I own two Norincos now, and one Polytech; all are very well built (especially for the money); I havn't tried the 22, but my 45, and my 305 work flawlessly. Quite frankly, tyhe only POS that I own at this time says "made in Germany"......this takes me to my next point.
China is not actually a communist country anymore, that's why we're able to buy stuff from them. They are actually what you would call a facist country, and if your against buying stuff from such, get rid of your Mausers, and Lugers boys.
I'm not pro-facist myself, but really, we're buying stuff from Muslim countries that are allowing stoning of women in the streets, and we're not willing to buy stuff from China...........get real.
I tend to wonder if there is a biast against buying Chines due to a skin colour tainted prejudice that leads us to falsely believe that they could never build anything at the same quality that someone in North America can.
Which leads me to my next point; China is willing to sell us any gun that we want; last time I checked the good ol U.S of A isn't (and no, I'm not anti American, I actually have some roots there).
Mike
