Just like it says, looking for advice on a shotgun to be used primarily for any '3 gun' matches....
Make, model, features, barrel length....
You know.. the usual stuff.

First, you need to decide on manual or semi?
I've used pumps (valtro, mossberg) and benelli m4 for several 3 gun seasons but ended up settling on a benelli m2, 26".

Whichever one you choose, go with bead sights and make sure it has screw in chokes.(just my opinion)

Just curious as to why you would switch to the M2 from the M4....
As well, I would prefer a semi to minimze recoil.

m4 has ghost ring sights where as m2 has a fibre optic front bead. I find it easier/faster for target acquisition. I found the ghost ring beneficial for slug shots but slug counts are minimal in a match.

870 is a great way to go. In Canada, the autos lose their advantage because of mag cap restrictions. In any long shotgun stage, you're better off with a 7 or 8+1 pump than with a 4+1 auto. Reloading the extra rounds kills you for time. Recoil reduction of an auto is less of a factor as target loads are the norm for 3 Gun. That's my personal take on it. Good luck with your choice.

Mossberg M590A1 w/ Spec Ops adjustable stock with pistol grip.

Sweet as butter! absorbs recoil you can shoot 100s without hurting!
I find the ghost ring really accurate. Just put the target in the ring and boom! Never miss!
The heavy barrel is a plus as this will steady your swing and this is a must for trap and 20" of sight radius is enough for this sport. That's just me...
Swing with your shoulder and hips and your good to go. just like golf...:p

just my +2

I'd recommend:

For pump, 590A1 SPX if you like ghost sights (which I do)

For Semi 930 Tactical, has a bead on the front (or an SPX if you can find one, extremely rare)

I find Remington lately is not on par with the Remington of old. I have a friend who recently purchased a new 870 and there are several quality control issues with it.

My other friend has an 870 from the late 90's and it's glass on glass smooth. NOTHING like the newer ones. If you are going the 870 route, thoroughly inspect the firearm front to back and perform at least field strip and inspect the internals. If anything looks sketchy, walk away.

For budget minded semis, if you see a Beretta 1201FP for sale under $800. Get it. It's nearly identical to a Benelli M1Super 90 (same gas system, same action) but without the $2000 pricetag.

I really want a 1201FP, but either I am not fast enough, or just the budget timing vs. availability doesn't align for me.

what Canadian dealer carries them?

Milarm for some reason had prices lower than everyone else to the tune of $120 at the time I bought mine. It'd be a good place to start. Perhaps prices have equalized across the board again?.

From there, P&D routinely has them in and I've seen some other forum sponsors advertising them... Del sins or Ellwood? can't recall off the top of my head. But they are out there.

I used my 590 the other day in a PPC match, I think I might have won to. Waiting for the results. I have a tricked out 870 to, but I think the 590 is better as its heavier and the safety is nicer. ITs a more solid gun for alot of reasons.

I would avoid the junk from spec ops as its hard to get a good cheek weld and you can get slapped in the face with thier stock. The 590 is heavy enough that recoil is not an issue.

Not the best choice...
Cylinder bore... will result in FAIL at most matches...

I shoot both a smooth bore 590A1 SPX and a smooth bore 930 SPX.

One first place finishes and one third, one fourth on shotgun stages (930, 930 and 590 respectively). The first place finish was done weak handed through a 9 hole barricade engaging steel, clays, etc.

Can't figure what you're bangin' on about

Criticism must be elaborated otherwise it will be deemed as hearsay and thy will be dubbed a Heretic!!!! :)

I know you shoot alot of 3 gun in the US, but do you really use alot of chokes? I find with slugs the cylinder is fine and with shot I just use LE stuff that has tighter patterns so its ok as well.

I have never shot a 3 gun match where clay targets were far away, do you see them far away at the US matches?

I shoot a ghost ring faster than a bead as well which is sort of backwards but works for me.

BTW I shot a PPC match this week with it, I am waiting for the scores to come in but I think I finished near the top, maybe even won the shotgun stage, but it was all slugs.
