new addition to the VZ58 family , CSA shorty twins .

a couple of important notices in the box .

1. for those of you who have any doubt of CSA workmenship , the rifle has a 5 year manufacturers warranty .

2. always #### and release the handle , never walk it in .

Re the family photo. The red one in the middle. Did you chop that barrel or is that one of the options? If a standard model, what is it called?

its a standard model FSN-01K from marstar, they come with a 11" barrel with the unique gas block .

i noticed more differences between the twins .

besides the front sights , the mag catch is bigger on the 5.56 and the trigger guard doesnt have the bent part .

the mag from 5.56 will fit the 7.62 but the 7.62 mag will not fit the 5.56 due to the front lug catch.

which brings me to this question , if the 5.56 mag fit the 7.62 , could i use the 5.56 mag with 7.62 ammo ? well i tried one dummy round and it worked , cant say for actual firing cycle.

Actualy some of the newer models of this rifle that I have been seeing are having this type of trigger gaurd and mag release lever. I like the ergo's much better of this design.

hey bud, can you give us a breakdown of how you modded the wood furniture to fit? if you had to do it again, what parts would you source and what tips could you give someone whose looking to do the same to their CSA VZ58? thx!

well , i had another buggered up lower HG so i decided to do another shorty HG but this time with a twist .

DIY basic shorty HG :

1. measure and mark two lines on both sides of the original wooden HG . using a hacksaw (for metal) and cut off the excess.

2. put the front of the black HG to the front of the wooden HG and trace . i just happened to have a front ferrule in my spare part kits (from wolverine) which was easier to trace with.

3. with the hacksaw start cutting the second line but only to the depth of the new line drawn on the front, using a box cutter i snapped off thin chips off the front of the wooden HG till it fits the front ferrule. i recommend not snapping off large pieces and to constantly check the fitment.

4. use hand file to smooth out the edges. you might have to file the upper back corners if it gets stuck when installing into the rifle.

thats it , no power tools needed.

now , if you want to do something more interesting and fancy but its alot more work then try this .

DIY hooked shorty HG :

5. i cut off a 3/4" piece from the scrap end and shape the top side with dremel round sander till it fits the bottom front of the wood. glue and clamp, and leave it to dry over night.

6. the next day i shaped the lower front end with a dremel and palm sanded the rest , removing the old finish.

then i sprayed 4 coats of semi-gloss clear .

so this is what a hooked shorty HG looks like .

looks so good - do you know if any CZ858 wood set will fit the CSA VZ58? wolverine has some dark wood ones for sale

yes , furniture are interchangeable between CZ858 and CSA VZ58 , except for the lower and top HG on the CSA VZ58 compact .
