The 270 Winchester and old myths.

;)Beauty, very nice:). I never had any factory ammo loaded with the pneumatics, just the bullets I happened to obtain and reload for use in my 30-30 reloads.

Barnes also makes a 180gr? Never tried it or ever will but I sure liked the 160gr KKSP CIL 's I handloaded for jumping WT's out of their beds at point blank. And the beauty of it was is that they shot to the same point of impact at 100 yards as the 130gr load. That's handy..............as I get older I find myself having gone full circle from large magnums back to standard calibers.Like the .270,250-3000,7x57 +6.5x55..........they just work and are a pleasure to shoot.............JMO..Harold

I have a love/hate relationship with the .270 Winchester.

It's a fine cartridge that I've used for years on all sizes of animals. I've loaded bullets from 115 grain V-Max to 150 grain Partitions. The .270 Winchester has never let me down.

I hate it because I live in the part of Ontario that has calibre limitations and .275" is the uppper end. (Yes, I know the .270 is .277" but the regulation is based on the rifle not the bullet.)

Were it not for this I'd have a 7mm Magnum and a 7-08.

Were in Ontario are you living that you can't own a calibre larger than .275? That restriction is only for small game. Unless that is all you mean you use it for. I myself live in S.O. and and only own a .270, but even when I go moose hunting in N.O. it's all I carry.

You can own any calibre you like, just can't hunt with anything larger than 270 in SW Ontario

My favourite is the 270, with the 7mm mag second. But i just recently picked up a large bag of new 280 brass soooo now I just have to buy me another rifle (AI) maybe.
Then I can really join in this contest.

I talked to a fellow here in Houston last night that is switching from his old 7Mag to a 270 because he was under the impression that the 270 will "drop them on the spot" better. He uses factory ammo.

I tried to explain that bullet construction would be a bigger factor than chambering or bore size. He wasn't buying it.

Notice a 6.8mm [.270] will possibly be the new NATO round. On a 30 Rem case as to fit exiting lower receivers and mags.Just sayin..............

Just bought my first .270 in over 40 years of shooting. Ran across a Remington 760 in as new condition and couldn't help myself, so it had to come home with me. Looking forward to wringing it out. Cheers Bac4

I've posted this previously;) but here goes again. In my years of hunting and shooting, one of the more popular calibers I had never owned was the 270. To correct that, I purchased a very nice Husqvarna in 270 Win from Why not?. Then, as 'it' sometimes happens, an old buddy decided to part with his Sako full length wood Sako in 270 Win because he is no longer abe to use it. Now,. I have a 'pair' of 270's.
