Rejoined the "short shotty" club. Real easy to justify $289 when you get a decent gun with both 18.5" and 28" (fixed modified) barrels, great hunting back-up to my Browning Silver. Lots of accessories for the 500 as well, I think this one will stay mostly stock except for a basic sling (need to get the stud for the front mag cap) and a soft buttstock cover with the shell loops.

Although if someone were to crank out 14.5" barrels I wouldn't be opposed to considering one :)

The question & usage of 'pistol grip-stocks' on large bore shotguns has probably been discussed before, but I will log in once more. First off
= they do have their place (though limited), mostly because they; look cool/tactical/menacing, functionally though they are more of a novelty,
the vertical pistol-grip W/an auto-pistol angle/slant is what most shooters are familiar with.

This style grip places most of the recoil & rearward forces 'slamming' back into your hand & by extension into the bones/joint of the wrist. The pistol-style grip mfg'd. by SpeedFeed (used in the movie 'Book of Eli') is a fore-shortened version of most factory shoulder stocks/OEM, this
style of grip works on a 'force of travel-inline design'. Recoil & rearward forces are directed inline along the bore axis. This is keeping with the original ergonomics & design of a shoulder-fired long gun, and saves the pain = wear & tear on your wrist.

"Just saying."

I wanna playy tooooooooo.... :D :D :D

Norinco 1887 Clone w/ 19" barrel, just got done refinishing her stock after her old stock got lopped off :D
&
Benelli SuperNova Tactical w/ 14" barrel; no mods... she doesnt need em! :D

Yeah I know the Norinco isnt 'TACTICAL' &/or 'TACT-I-COOL'; but its the only picture I could find of the Benelli so the Norinco is along for the ride... ;)

... the Norinco has her own section in my other thread in the Pics & Video Gallery... :)

The recoil experience you describe only occurs if you're unfamiliar with an isometric push/pull style. Your pump hand should be pushing forward while your trigger hand is pulling back. This puts most of the recoil on the pump hand and not on your trigger hand and wrist. Personally, even with such methods, a pistol grip only shotgun is borderline useless, short of breaching doors.
