Has anyone compared the Ar15 to the Cz858?

Which platform is 'Better'

I love how light the '58 rifles are (like feathers).

AR's, I like that I can easily swap barrels anytime I want; they also have nicer machining and are very modern.

Ultimately though it comes down to what's Restricted and what's Non-Restricted. The AR would win if Non-Restricted, as is, for Canada peasants like us, the '58 wins (for now) ;)

I have shot thousands of rounds through both. Both are good platforms, but the VZ is now mostly a safe queen and runs as a backup. My AR is more ergonomic, more reliable (yes! more reliable. Just keep your AR nice and juicy lubed and she'll run), more accurate and faster to get rounds on target.

I also have about twice the money into my Ar as I have into my VZ, there are just so many great accessories!

The AR is more expensive to shoot of course. But if you plan your training instead of just banging away, you can make the most of your limited ammo budget.

Either way, they are both great rifles. If you train properly with them to learn their idiosyncrasies they will serve you well. I certainly wouldn't feel inadequate running either platform.
 
When speaking of ammo costs;

Don't forget that an AR-15 can switch from .223 to .22LR in about ten seconds.

Not possible with the CZ-858.
 
I prefer the 7.62 round for its power within 200m, but the AR can be fired fairly quickly without loosing sight picture and at further distance accurately. The cost is not an issue as I can reload 223 for the same cost of the chech surplus.
 
The VZ58 is way more reliable then any AR, just look on youtube how many malfunction vids there are for AR's

AR has to be drenched in oil and cleaned daily to properly work (according to original owner's manual)

7.62x39 has way more power then the wimpy 55 grain 223, Discovery did a direct shoot out between AK (same ammo as 58) and AR15, the 223 couldn't even go through a cinder block, while the 7.62x39 shattered it to pieces

Try getting a little dirt or rain in your AR and see how many jams/failures you get

The aftermarket for 58 is getting really big, you can have a good portion of the accessories you find on AR's, and because both systems rely mostly on weaver rail, they are interchangeable

It's also funny to note how delta guys and seals trust their life with an AK in afghanistan as opposed to their standard AR's/M4's
 
Like many here, I own both.


The AR platform hands down. Better ergos, more accurate, more options accessory wise, more caliber choices, and much easier to reliably mount any optic you wish.

I like my CZ858 and it goes with me pretty much every range trip. It's fun, the looks have grown on my, I love the simplicity and the caliber in 7.62x39 is much cheaper to shoot. I wouldn't shoot corrosive surplus in a DI AR rifle due to rusting issues. So in this respect it's better. The CZ/VZ is handy, decently made and a lot of fun. I've kept mine stock and like shooting it with the iron sights.

But ultimately this comparison is like comparing a Porsche to a Honda Civic. Add in all the parts you want, the performance may be good but you still have a Civic. The modern AR rifles are far more modern in design and function.

The special forces of pretty much every western army carry the M16 FOW regardless of what their standard issue rifle is because they are at the top of the food chain and get what they want.

Sum up and sit down.
 
Had an 858 for a while, still have my AR. Better optics options and I much prefer the ergonomics and modularity of the AR. Given the choice, I would choose an AR over any 858 (or similar) - any day of the week.
 
I would not own a cz if the ar was non restricted. I will end up with one either way though.

The AK47 is totally way more better than the M4 on COD as well....

Hey are you like a sniper in real life too? Just curious, because you totally seem to know what your talking about.
 
I had both for quite a while. The CZH2003 eventually started collecting dust though. My main reasons for selling were that precission of the VZ58 variants are inferior to the AR15, choice of optics weren't great on the VZ58, the 7.62x39 round isn't great over longer distances, and I HATE cleaning corrosive ammo from my guns. The AR15 can be lubed up and thrown in the safe. You HAVE to clean your VZ58 variant before you lock it up or it'll rust up within three hours here in Southern Ontario.

If you could only get reloadable, boxer primed, non-corrosive surplus 7.62x39 ammo, I'd probably still have my CZH2003. But until that point comes to be, I won't bother getting another.

Oh, and Mr. Sniper###, you gotta lay off the hard drugs man. They're really not good for you. Perhaps its time for a CGN family intervention.
