Shorten PAL Approval Times

I sent both my wife and my applications in at the same time in same envelope. Both are listed as received Oct 25 her status is

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

And my credit card has been charged the 80 dollars. My status says is in pre processing and no credit card charges yet. Wouldn't they do them at the same time?

I am probably just impatient!

Yeah, I dunno. I called the AB CFO office and the woman told me that is was "still in background checks" and that I should be patient. I dont get it, I don't have a criminal record or anything. I'm a little concerned, especially when reading guys are getting approved the same da their references are called. That was nearly 2 weeks ago for me.

I'm new to the forums, and thought I'd start my first post with my non-restricted PAL progress. . .

Course taken September 24th/25th
CFO stamped papers received October 12th
Licence paperwork sent out October 13th
Registered mail reveals October 17th arrival/signed for
Paperwork officially received at the RCMP office October 18th
Online status/information of above shows up November 2nd
Licence has been issued November 15th

Now I wait for my licence in the mail and will let you all know when it arrives to complete the timeline. No interviews of references this time around. Going to be taking the restricted portion of the course sometime in the near future and hoping everything processes as smoothly (although I expect reference interviews for that one).

45 days is the standard of service that a typical application will experience. The 28 days is pretty much a legislated requirement.

if they hired a hundred more people, the standard of service would be way faster, but they've decided that 45 days (which is really typical of government: 4-6 weeks) is where they want it to be.

Obviously, application with missing info, lousy references, or 'long stories' will take longer to process.

The purpose of this thread is to minimize delays, not really rush things along.

P

THERE IS NO 45 DAY REQUIREMENT.
28 day waiting period for new licence applicants is all the statute/regs require
45 days is just a number they use so you won't bother them

I called back 3 weeks after my application had been sent to the CFO. Apparently I failed the background check the first time. I spoke to a constable who ran it again and came through fine. Apparently I have a common name and something came up. If you think you're in the clear after it's been sent to the CFO you might still want to follow up if the status of your application doesn't change online.

followup

I gave them a call today and it was a rejected credit card...she said maybe someone couldn't read it or whatever so I did it there. She then put me straight through to the interview. Nice. I asked what the next steps were nd was told they would interview my references and the move to the CFO. Naturally I texted my references to let them know.
cheers
Wally

I can't believe that for some people approval times are less than 45 days, yet for others it is a lot longer. I sent in my application in August and it was received by them August 29th. The license has not been issued yet. All of my references were called early October. I called them last week and they told me the application was sent to the CFO for background checks. They also told me that if I don't receive the license within 3 weeks to call back.
Perhaps it is because I am from Ontario. ?

29 days for approval time for me on an expired RPAL which is still considered a new application.

The biggest time saver is if you and your references call in to do the interviews. The very instant my second reference completed his interview my application went into completed and approved status.

Here's my current time line

Sept. 24th - Passed safety course
Oct. 14th - Received my results in the mail
Oct. 17th - Application mailed express post
Oct. 19th - Application received
Nov. 3rd - Application "In Progress", called and was told "waiting for picture to be scanned"
Nov. 9th - Called to check if there were any issues with my application. Was told " There are no issues, just waiting for the 28 day waiting period to finish."
Nov. 16th - Current Status: Your application has been processed and your license has been issued. If you have not received your license within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Center Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Look at that 28 days exactly. I couldn't have gotten it any faster....NICE!! When I receive my PAL in the mail I will finish my time line.

Hey right on! I called yesterday, they were very kind but were not ready to do interviews yet "but please call back early next week ... or you can wait for us to call you".

So it seems they're getting caught up. I'm waiting on restricted so it'll likely take a little longer.

My own PAL story:

24 Aug - Registered for Firearm Safety course.
6 Oct - Completed Course
7 Oct - Application Mailled in
12 Oct - CFSC signed for Application
31 Oct - Status changed to "In Progress"
9 Nov - Status changed to "Issued"
18 Nov - PAL received in the mail

Considering there was 2 holidays in the mix, it went pretty smoothly.

Now I got to register for my RPAL and start all over LOL

My Pal and RPal Story:

October 3rd: Challenged Pal and RPal
October 11th: Sent in Application
October 17th: Received
November 2nd: Online
November 10th: Interview done
November 21st: Called CFC was told application went to the CFO, called the CFO, lady who answered pulled my application and told me that it hadn't been looked at, took a couple of minutes to go over it, asked a few question then said after being on hold for a while "I've gone over your application and it has been approved, you'll receive your license in about two weeks" :) Online status changed about an hour later

Not the shortest time but calling definitively sped it up at the end.

Just finished my RPAL upgrade last week. Mailed my application yesterday minus test results so I can get things started.

Will have my references call in about 2 weeks and will fax my test results the minute they come back from Orillia.

Stay tuned.

Sorry to hear about the contract loss. How long did the application process take for you, start-to-finish?
Things happen. I was contemplating a career change anyway. From the time they received it to the time they approved it, it took exactly 28 days. It's good that I was calling 1-2 times a week as there was missing info (faxed the test results to a wrong number). Took a couple of weeks for it to actually arrive once it was approved.

Is there any way I can speed up the process of them entering it into the system and getting it online or do I have to wait for it to get entered into the system before I can call and speed things along? I sent my application away on the fifth of November and I'm getting impatient.
