Shorten PAL Approval Times

So, I sent in my package for pal and rpal about 2 weeks ago, via registered mail , canada post. Following the directions, i'v called to confirm delivery, while speaking with rcmp they told me to call back on the 4th week, to confirm delivery, and im not sure if i should call back and talk to a different person, or wait until the 4th week. I don't think it will appear online right after i called to get it confirmed that they have recived it, canada post says they did, but its prob in some pile now and they dont wanna go threw it all only looking for my package lol

any advice to my next step would be awsome, thanks in advaance =)

I just wish they would post it online so I would get some peace of mind and know it hasn't been lost somewhere. :(

From what I've been reading it's taking normally 10-11 days from receipt to showing online. Be patient and remember your 28 day waiting period begins the day they receive the package, not the day it shows online. If they've received it then the clock is ticking.

On a happy note, I got my "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued." notice today :D w:h: :D I'll post a full timeline when it arrives.

Update, just checked online today and my license has been issued. So quick recap.

received 10/31/2011
in progress a couple weeks later, had my references call in big timesaver
license issued 11/28/2011

now im waiting on the plastic with a big wish list like its my second birthday

The trouble is, I'm a moron and didn't use registered mail. Just popped my application into the mailbox. I have no way of knowing if they've received it. Otherwise I'd just sit tight and relax, and let it arrive whenever, but this way I can't help but be bothered by some stress. It's been 15 business days since I sent it out, but I don't know if they have it. I tell myself that barring some sort of royal screw up on my part that they should. At one point I was freaking out that I might have forgotten to put on my return address/info on the envelope (I used a premade RCMP envelope with the CFC mailing information already on it given to me by my instructor so I doubt that's an issue), and another point I was worried about not having enough postage. GAAAAH!

I called today and they said systems were down. I just want to find out if everything is cool. They called the references for my wife last week and hers is issued, when one of the references brought me up and asked to be interviewed they said not yet or something to that effect. I have been interviewed. I guess I will call them tomorrow. I want to get mine around same time as my wife so we can Xmas shop.

Thats the same way I think...it's a curse LOL

Well regular mail is going to take 3-5 days to get there. Plus 10-11 days to get it into their system. So you're already 16 days there, IF everything is working properly. Add that their system was down, so there' +1 or +2 days too.

If you don't see it online by Friday afternoon, call them and ask if you can resend it by registered mail as you feel (after 18 days in transit) it must be lost. I found the people on the phone very helpful!

Passed my CFSC in August (Ontario), applied in September with all appropriate forms. Checked status of application on-line, it stated that my application was received on Sept. 20. Called CFC (politely) asking if there were any errors, they said everything looked fine. After waiting 6 weeks (no change in status), I called back and spoke with CFC again (politely) in mid-late October regarding my status and the delay. Keep in mind that I am only applying for a non-restricted PAL (no interviews required, or so I was told by CFC). They told me it was busy this time of year and it is normal. Waited some more. Called last week of November. This time CFC told me that my application was received by the CFO on Oct. 18, and that CFC was waiting for the CFO. When I asked if I could call the CFO I was told that they don't give out the number until after 90 days of waiting for the CFO. I found the number on the internet (Tel: 705-329-5522) for the Ontario CFO and will call tomorrow on my own accord. This is crazy, people in Ontario are getting their restricted PAL's significantly faster than me. Are they giving me the run around, or what? And no, I have never been convicted of anything.

Sounds like they fawked up and are trying to shift the blame. I'd call the CFO too. "Hello, my name is Johnny Appleseed and I'm calling in regards to a delay in my PAL application. I contacted the CFC and they tell me it's held up at this office. Is there someone to talk to about this?"

Use terms like "is there any additional information you need?" and "if there's anything I can do to help speed this along, please don't hesitate to call me." I don't think you need someone to hold your hand, but having delt a with a lot of people who hate their desk jobs, I know stuff like this puts a little sunshine under them :)

Whoo hoo wife's was issued last Thu and mine today. Gotta say it's good to see. They received Oct 25 for both of us registered mail. Not bad! Now jus wait a couple weeks for the plastic then shopping

Well I called the CFO this morning. The lady I spoke to was helpful and polite. She told me that I had passed the background check (which apparently takes the longest). She said the reason for the hold up was because I answered "yes" to 1 of the 5 questions. It was to do with my financial history, nothing serious. She said that she would forward it to her supervisor and to make sure to call them back at the end of the week to followup. Looks like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, or so to speak. w:h:

Ahhhhhhh... makes sense. But it's always best to answer it honestly, even if it hangs the process a little bit. A friend also had to answer yes to one of the ones about charges and that took a little while to explain. He got his PAL too.
