Shorten PAL Approval Times

I would love to know what their background checks are. I have had lots of different ones in my life and never any issue but am still curious. Is it just CPIC and what do those reports look like.

I don't have a clue, just know I passed the background check, whatever type it may be. Probably a pretty thorough one I would imagine.

Well I called the CFO this morning. The lady I spoke to was helpful and polite. She told me that I had passed the background check (which apparently takes the longest). She said the reason for the hold up was because I answered "yes" to 1 of the 5 questions. It was to do with my financial history, nothing serious. She said that she would forward it to her supervisor and to make sure to call them back at the end of the week to followup. Looks like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, or so to speak. w:h:

Maybe a little too optimistic considering all of the overlapping confusion and bureaucracy at play, those poor guys.
w:h: downgraded to :)

YOUR APPLICATION HAS COMPLETED INITIAL PROCESSING IT IS NOW IN PROGRESS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Received on Nov 14th.

Talk about a weight off my shoulders :p

Haha... and what day is it? :) Glad it's in the works. You can also now take advantage of the tips this thread has to speed it along. I'd probably call Monday, ask if all the information is there and if they need anything else. If no, ask if you may do your interview now as you have some spare time. Once you've done yours ask for your file number so your references can call in too.

Upside; They could be approving you as early as Dec 5th :)

I need some clarification of the process.

Province: ON
Date application recieved: 11/07/2011
Date all interviews complete: 11/29/2011
Current status: YOUR APPLICATION HAS COMPLETED INITIAL PROCESSING IT IS NOW IN PROGRESS (Unchanged since 11/07/2011)

Now what happens? how long does it take? where does my app go? This is for PAL/RPAL

My application showed up yesterday, as being received on November 10th.. I sent it out non-registerd mail Oct 12ish. Called in, did interview, references called in yesterday too. Lets see how long from here I guess. Hard part should be over.

You are basically done. You're now in the 28-45 day waiting period, which currently seems to be around 30 days. If they're still on track and you didn't answer YES to any of the history questions you should be approved this week. If you did need to answer yes, expect some delay as the Ontario CFO does some digging on you.

Wow, a month to get it in the system. Registered mail certainly seems to get things moving faster. Dunno if they're getting bombarded with applications because of C-19 going through the final phases... we all might need to be a bit more patient for the next couple months.

Thanks you very much Noltz I'll keep an eye on it :) This would make a good x-mas present!!

Hey Guys,

So, I took the test and passed with flying colors. My instructor had us put together an information package that I am to fill out and send once I get back two copies (test results?) of some form he sends off to them. I can then put all the information in the envelope and send it in for processing. Anyone know how long this initial thing will take?

Read post 1 in this thread. Gives you everything you need to know.

But to answer your question, If you are in Ontario it'll take 4-6 weeks to get your test results back from the CFO.

How to speed everything up is also contained in this thread.

Cheers!

Good morning. My girlfriend sent her pal app in in the beginning of july and we still haven't received anything. She has called probably 10 times and always gets told that there is no issues with her application and she is in the final stage. I think the final stage has been 3 months so far. What should we do? Thank you. Aaron

I assuming you're calling Mirimichi? I would ask them directly what the hold up is in as polite a tone as you can! Ask if they're holding the application, or is it in the Alberta CFO's office. It's been "final stage" for 3 months. Can someone please lay hands on it and tell me what's missing or why it hasn't been approved yet? I appreciate you're in hunting season now, which is why I sent it in July.

You can also find your CFO's phone number online and call them directly. "Hello, I'm applying for a firearms license and I'm getting stonewalled when calling Mirimichi. They continue to insist it's in the "final stage" of approval, yet it's been at that stage for 12 weeks. Is there anything your office can do to get my application approved and license issued?"

Received Nov. 4th, my MPOL was issued today! My dad called about his today and the guy said "it was on his desk ready for final approval" so I'm thinking a day or two! Thanks for all the help! :D

Just wanted to update I got it approved/issued on the 28th day exactly. Now waiting for the mail.....

11/21/2011 - Mailed application.
11/24/2011 - Day it was received at their end and signed for.
12/08/2011 - Ran into this thread and called in. Spoke to Jennifer and said it could take up to 5 weeks before it could be added on the online query site. =o(
Will call again Monday. -sigh-
