How big is the black rifle crowd in Canada?

In Sweden you basically have to be an active IPSC rifle shooter to get a license for a "black rifle". I'd love to get into IPSC but my funds are limited. Even if you do own a "black rifle" you can't hunt with it if it's on a competition license. I would love to hunt with an AR-10 type rifle.

So there are what, tens of thousands of "black rifle"-shooters in Canada? Or a hundred thousand? Just trying to get an idea of the size of your black rifle market.

Wikipedia figures indicate that as of 2007 there were an estimated 9.24 million firearms in Canada. Let's assume that there is at least 1 black rifle owner for every 50 guns owned in Canada (I pulled that number out of my arse). That would translate into 184,800 black rifle owners in Canada. I would think that's a reasonable number, although as I said, this number is entirely based on my own crude assumptions and observations.

If you could extract from the RCMP the exact number of restricted firearms owners, I think you'd have a much better idea how many people own black rifles, or at least AR15s (granted, few people who hold R-PALs don't have at least one military rifle).

Here's an exercise: Look at how many active posters there are in this Black Rifle Section. Now, one could safely assume that 3/4 of the regular posters in this section have at least 1 black rifle. Mulitiply. Now add that number to itself, just to be safe.
That would be your target number of black rifles owned by regular posters in the Black Rifle section of this website.
But don't forget- just because you don't post in the Black Rifles Section, doesn't mean you don't have a Black Rifle, and just because you post in the Black Rifles Section, doesn't mean you have a Black Rifle.

If you can't afford a $700 Norc, then you can forget about feeding it.
Too true. If your not shooting surplus in your Norc AR, you aren't having fun.

I make a point of hunting with my non restricted black rifles as much as possible just to prove a point. Hopefully in years to come more people will take up the sport utilizing black and red rifles and with any luck, we will continue to see improvements in the legislation surrounding them and the use of them.

You rock saskcop. I'm glad your here representing the boys/girls in blue well. Keep it up.

I take out black rifles to the range when I shoot my milsurps, so people see both sides can get along in the same gun locker.

A couple of RRA builds that are now gone...but I did enjoy them while I had them!

it started with the m1a socom II, now i'm putting away for a ar10 12 inch leonidas. can't hunt with anything classed as restricted...yet.
personally i'd like to see the restricted/prohibited classes be abolished all together, however that is doubtful.
we shoot restricted rifles and handguns, and fail to see missing out due to not wanting/agreeing to fill out the proper paper work needed to do so.

i would like to think that the restricted class PAL has seen its popularity grow, i believe it has.

a###el,

You know how it goes... right? Tell a kid not to do something... next thing you know... they're doing it.

Now try to tell grown up men (and women) that they shouldn't buy this or that gun... You know darn well it will never fly!
The Liberal party of Canada has been awarded the Gun Salesmen of the year award, for the 20 consecutive years!

imho the CZ858 is one of the best hunting platforms around. All you really need is a 5 round mag and you're good to go.

It's like using a lever gun, with a detach mag, semi-auto, and pistol grip. Don't forget it has better sights, it's the same weight, just as reliable, and about the same accuracy.

:onCrack:

:D

Sorta like how President Obama spurs massive firearms sales in the U.S. ......;)

So much truth. My parents told me guns were dangerous... now I have... uh... enough that I have to go recount them!
