Range Update
Well I made a few changes to my setup already, the Viper HS is a good scope, but it is not what I wanted long term so I went ahead and ordered the Vortex Razor HD 5-20X50 EBR 2B MRAD. For those not familiar with this scope, it is a monster! 35mm main tube, over 15 inches long, and 35 ounces, give or take. But, it has terrific glass, FFP reticle which at first I was a little afraid of, but the more I learn, the more I think it will work very good for my style of shooting, and it has the MRAD adjustment system. Some people will say negative things about the MRAD system, such as you can't adjust it fine enough, but you know what, I am not that great of a shooter yet so again it will fit my style very well. What I really like about this scope is it tracks consistently and repeatedly with very positive clicks on both the elevation and the windage knobs, and the zero stop on the elevation is awesome! Once I locked in my zero distance, I can click up and down all day long and I do not have to remember how many clicks I made because the zero stops does it for me. I will do up some pictures tomorrow in the day light outside for everyone to see.
I went to the range on Sunday with my 10 year old son, he has a keen interest in everything that has to do with shooting, so I took him with the idea he would be my spotter. Turns out he is a rather good spotter! I started out with the 260 and him on the spotting scope, It took all of three shots to have the rifle perfectly zeroed, but I would have had it in two shots but I dialed up rather than down! Anyways, after several "average" sized groups in the 0.4-0.6" range, I turned to a fresh target and fired three shots. I knew it was a good group by the look on my son's face, but from my perspective behind the rifle, I didn't know just how good. Turns out I shot a 3 shot group that goes 0.118" centre to centre, I have included a picture for you guys to see. This was done with a Caldwell bipod up front, and my arm/fist under the butt stock for elevation control. I still think I need to work on the load a bit, as I know this group was just a fluke, but it represents my personal best 3 shot group so I am still proud of it.
Anyways, enjoy the picture, I will post some of the rifle tomorrow with better light!
