OK boys, talk me into a Savage

i ordered one of the 11/111 trophy hunter xp's, won't be here for a while but I don't think there is a better deal than those, I was told it will be $520, that's with the accutrigger and nikon scope, so thats about $90 extra for the trigger and scope upgrade. I think they will be one of the most popular guns when they become available.

Mine isn't an Axis

But for an 'inexpensive' brand, hard to beat the performance as others here have made mention of. So if you want a reason..............

just picked up a savage 11 FCXP3 package in 243 Win I wanted one in 7-08 but they don't make that model in 7-08 but when I get tired of the 243 I can just swap a barrel

this is my 3rd savage, and I'm still impressed with them. not so happy with the new non-accutrigger setup. the old style was adjustable the new ones you need to use a stone and hone it just right ;) but not too much

did some reloading for it (55grn Noslers) now just need to go to the range

Not a savage Fan! Cheap ugly looking gun. They are accurate but I wont trust one in the bush ,minus 40 degrees outside while hunting Trophy Whitetail....

Thanks but no thanks!

everyone is intitled to their opinions, so out of curiousity what would you choose and why?
Myself I'd go with the savage as the only ugly guns are the inaccurate ones.
cheers

What part of a Savage rifle is prone to failure at minus 40 in the bush?

Alot of parts like the fireing Pin on the neighbors savage rifle(for example)...I'm sorry but you get what you pay for with anything in life and i'm not going to Put a Trophy whitetail hunt on the line with some $250.00 combo package savage...I dont care how accurate some of them are.But thats just my opinion on savage rifles,I know many people enjoy them! They defanatley have there place, but there just not for me.

I got American and European made firearms, and I prefer useing the European Rifles on a Regular basis while Trophy big game hunting.

My choice would be a rifle made in Europe.

 I hunt with nothing but savage and have a nice collection of trophy deer shot in cold weather. Your statement has no logic behind it. The proof is hanging all over my walls

Savage arms are not the highest quality firearms in the world. As I've posted before, I've owned 2 of them and they both had manufacturing problems. The receiver wasn't even flat on one which made it impossible to mount a scope. Their quality control is obviously not what it is for some brands which might stake their reputation on being a quality, accurate firearm rather than a cheap and accurate firearm.

Yup...accurate junk,is still just accurate junk.:agree:

the older savages cannot be put down They are very competitve in target shooting and quality was great. I have a savage bvss in .223 and have shot to 1000 yard targets. I also have a proto type 112 in .223 that is tremendously accurate for targets. If i could shoot as well as they do, i would enter in many competitions that happen.

And while I haven't had the opportunity to try mine out to the distances you have, with the shooting I have done with it, the accuracy isn't shabby. And reliability wise, never had a problem.

I see some great deals on Savage Axis and 111 combo rifles. I have never owned a Savage, but at those prices I am tempted. Probably be a 22-250 or a 7-08. I have always thought of Savage as a second rate gun, no real reason to back it up. Please try to convince me that I should have one in the rack.

I will assume that the package is priced at $500.00. I would place that $500.00 as a down payment on a good quality firearm. As as serious big game hunter I wouldn't chance a cheap second rate gun. Don't forget, "you get what you pay for".
