Regular M305 vs shorty M305

Ok, I just got finished ordering a M-305 Shorty from Canadaammo.com

Looking foward to getting this rifle, great service from Chris at CanAm!!! Anybody else order a shorty from them that has had it out to the range yet? How do you like it?

It's really fun to order a gun :)

I sighted mine in the other day, the rear sight had to be set all the way to the bottom to get close to zero at 100 yards. I may have to grind a bit off the tail of the rear sight leaf to achieve perfect zero, but this is no big deal.

It functioned flawlessly otherwise, no feed problems at all. Accuracy was reasonable with Norc ammo, 3-4 MOA for 10 shot strings. My eyes are not near as good as they once were, so I am sure it would easily shoot tighter groups with a good scope. I did the usual basic DIY accurizing steps before shooting it, so I don't know what the "as delivered" accuracy would have been.

How do I like it? - I bought the combo deal for the ammo, with a mind to sell the shorty. After handling and shooting it, I am keeping it.

buster95,no offense intended...did you want a rifle or a knife? bayonets on a 5 shot semi-auto CIVILIAN firearm just are'nt that handy....

Buster95, don't let anyone dissaude you about the bayonet...remember the old Boy Scout motto and"be prepared" ;-) I personally wouldn't have a long gun that doesnt accept a bayonet...and i've got a half dozen of them. Also check out:

Mine arrived on the 30th :) Spent 2 days cleaning 'er up. 1 of those days was spent looking for the ejector after it flew across the shop and landed in a broken turbo manifold for a VW Bug, but I digress...

Was great to shoot! Tight groups at 50yds, still pretty consistent at 100yds. Made the SKS feel like a BB gun afterwards haha

I didn't have this problem, I actually had to raise my rear sight 2 notches from bottom to zero at 100. Weird.

CanadaAmmo shorty has the lug. But you need to order a short gas plug to use the lug.

Who uses bayonet anyhow?

As long as the sight functions in all directions with good repeatable clicks you are good to go :) If they are questionable and you are going to use irons get a Garand rear sight .
My Shorty zeroed the same , does yours have the tall front sight as well ?
As a taller front sight is required due to the shorter sight radius .

Yup, walked the distance out from 100, up to 250, once I found that 100yd zero and corrected my elevation knob for it, she was pretty much bang on. Shoulda taken a picture, but my 5 shot grouping at 250 was about 6". Pretty decent for irons if you ask me!

I saw the sticky about filing down the front sight. Personally, I believe in the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", and since the sights worked as advertised once I was zeroed, it doesn't bug me all that much :nest:

Hahahahaha bayonet lug that can't accept a bayonet Now that's quality control

If you're planning to scope it, simply remove the FH and reinstall it at the 120 or 240 degree splines, OR use the Dlask adjustable gas lock (which comes with its own front sight mount) and reposition the FH as above and the M6 bayonet will fit.

I am also interested in a shorty.

1) How does the plastic stock compare to USGI?

2)Do the threads on the shorty accept any other style of flash surpressor?

Thanks

I am planning on getting one of the shorties for the EBR stock. I saw some initial posts talking about the fitting of the rifle into USGI stocks... Should i be concerned about fitting this into the chassis?

From what ive read i would be.This fact alone is why i dint get a shorty for my EBR and just got a regular m305 cut down.Ive seen some pics of the shorty's being fitted into a USGI and Arch angel stock. In both cases it looked like quite a bit of material had to be removed from the stocks.

How does the Norinco stock compare to a USGI? I'm curious too.

The new synthetic stocks are a little thicker on the forestock area and the area by the trigger where you grip the rifle.
I think they arnt too bad actually , but I prefer my USGI fiberglass .
