Isn't the bolt made of pumice? 
have tried peters hi point it is fun! it gets a lot of looks at the range (mostly people shaking their head) but people smile after shooting it. so please hipoint importers get us a nonrestricted version of the carbine (turns the screws)

Does anyone know if the 40 cal pistol mag would fit in the 9mm carbine AND if it would feed 9mm reliably? I'm still waiting on my new baby toget here, but in the mean time I'm trying to figure out a way around the 5 round thing. should be able to stuff 6 or 7 9mm rounds in a .40 5 rounder i think.
Also they sure look ALOT like a 1911 mag. Does anyone know if a 9mm 1911 mag would work in them?

I've seen a video of someone modifying a .45 M1911 magazine to function in a .45 ACP Hi-Point. The same might be possible for the 9mm version, BUT it would be considered "remanufacturing" and therefore make the magazine a prohibited device.
It WOULD be legal to modify the rifle to use standard 9mm M1911 magazines, however (See: HK SL8 AR-15 magazine conversion for legal precedent).

until i get a mag handy and the rifle in front of me i won't know for sure, but since he widened the mag slot, all i should have to do is slim down the mag catch... hopefully.... maybe... we'll see what happens. The rifle is inteh mail and i dont' have any 9mm 1911 mags around, but we'll see what happens when i get around to this!

I've not handled a Hi-Point or really looked at the internals, but judging from the look of the magazine and what the guy in the previously posted video did... You'd actually need to do the exact opposite.
If you look carefully at the above picture, you'll notice a little notch sticking out. That is what hooks into the mag-well. Logic dictates that, when you push down on the magazine release, the material that the notch gets hooked on is moved outwards, thereby letting the magazine drop free.
The easiest (read: Laziest) mod I can think of would be to jerry-rig a European mag release on the heel of the gun, holding the magazine in place that way, though that really depends on the dimensions of the magazine in relation to the length of the grip. It'd also be even uglier and less ergonomic without any real guarantees of proper function, so...
