Whats the hardest kicking gun you ever fired?

I shot a buddy's 4 bore double ONCE and that was an experience I don't wish to repeat. My .470 NE doubled on me once and that was a handful, pretty much like the 4 bore. I used to have a 450 Ackley that produced 93 ft lbs of free recoil, shooting that from the bench took concentration and focus to a whole new level. Never tried my 50 without the brake, don't think I will either.

30 Newton. Maybe a little more recoil in than a 300wm but the felt recoil is ridiculous. Just look at the drop on the stock...and no recoil pad...

Age of the shooter is relevant here I think. When I was a young teenager my Dad handed me the Parker Hale Safari De Luxe in 30-06 loaded with factory 220 grain cartridges and it wasn't much fun to shoot as I recall. I don't like that load to this day. Of course, age is again a factor. ;)

I intend to practice of hand, up North at our lake, i figure a 100 rounds should do it to get the hang of it, will see but usually, i get it done... Cheers. JP.

Remington 870 super mag with the new winchester supreme eliet extended range turkey. I think its just under 2 oz of shot and off the bench to pattern to boot. My brains got rocked lol. 4 shots and I was done lol.

There is some slight consolation in knowing that whatever you shoot will get hit harder than you will. :D

I shot about 1000 rounds out of my .416 in the 4 months before my first buffalo hunt, with 30 per day being my sensible maximum. Looking back, I can safely say that I'm never going to do that again. Something inside my left ear clicked when I walked for the next two years.
Eeeeek!
Making my money from music that scares the hell out of me. :(

Since a couple of weeks, i have to say that the 416 Rigby CZ 550 got my attention pretty good... VERY powerfull rifle... Cheers. JP.

I've been contemplating one of those exactly for my first big bore. Maybe I'd be better off starting with a 375 H&H. People always seem to use the old "surprisingly manageable" idiom to describe the H&H, whereas the Rigby gets the "hold on ta yer hat!" treatment :)

I wasn't thrilled either. A guy can joke about getting older and deafer, but when confronted with the idea that he has gone too far...............luckily it proved to be temporary.

Besides, Tammy is always saying I have a screw loose, and was presenting this as supporting evidence. Comeing from someone who doesn't know her marinas from her merinos, the arguement never got much traction.:)

.458 Lott a few years ago, some guy was at the range with it, a Ruger African model.

He has the rifle because the 375 he had shot a moose with the year before that had run 100 yards wasn't powerful enough.

It was pretty unpleasant.

By the recoil calculators, and subjective evalution gained from owning CZs in both calibers I'd say the recoil is double. I've put the .416 aside in favor of a hot loaded .458 Win. Kicks about the same, but brings more to the party.

She's got a bit of kick.

Sounds like he needs to place his shots better or have a look at projectile choice with the 375H&H.
But is 100m terrible when trying to stop an animal as big & powerful as a moose?
I can tell you my River No1H 450/400 NE 3" is a bit of a tooth rattled but nowhere as bad as a SAKO stainless/synthetic in 300 Win Mag I shot years back.
Virtually no recoil pad & pretty light.
That said I was a serious greenhorn with guns back then & my technique is far better these days.

Hardest recoiling gun I ever shot, let's see now. Oh yeah, I think it was my muzzle loader with a 250gr sst bullet behind 100gr of pyrodex pellets. Did I forget to mention that my ram rod(which barely sticks out past the barrel) was still in it. Recoiled so hard that the scope hit the ol forehead as the gun recoiled past my shoulder onto the ground. That's what happens when someone interrupts you when you are loading your gun-my mistake in the end and makes for a funny story.

So far the hardest kicking gun I have shot is my Mossberg 500 and 3" turkey magnum shells. My shoulder was black & blue after 8 shots while patterning it .

Did anyone else notice this thread was started in 2005?

Believe it or not a Marlin in 38-55.....FELT RECOIL. The crescent but plate dug into my shoulder something awful and the gun was painful to shoot. Due to the funny shape no pad, slip on or otherwise would fit without a stock modification. The antique gun was to valuable to modify so sold the gun.
Now.....45-70GVT in a C.Sharps. Not bad recoil just heaviest recoil.
