Lets get a some lever action #### going

WOW John those are beauts
The condition of the military is amazing!
That is probably the nicest one in existance:)

Why thank you senior. I do know that you have had a nice savage or two in your day! If that is not the nicest MHG it is right up there. I don't think that it has ever been fired, there is still some grease inside the rotor.

These are two of my nicer 303 sav rifles top is a military rifle bottom is a feather weight take down, top 1915 bottom 1914. The top one letters to the Montreal Home Guard, the bottom one letters to the Brockville Home Guard! Some Canadian History!

The bottom one has been badly defaced with those hook studs. I will gladly give it a new home when you find a "better" one.:D
You must have an army out there keeping an eye out for you Blair, how you keep coming up with them is beyond me.

Great old photo of 99's in action Road King:). Here's another I've posted in past. The lady in the photo was well known in the B.C. central interior and her forte was hunting Grizzly, using a 99 Savage in, 22 Savage High Power no less!!

Joe & Betty Wendle who live down the street from us in Barkerville when we first moved there in '55. I recall seeing they had a few hides from the success of her hunts hanging in their upstairs stairwell.

Couldn't tell you for sure but as I recollect, it did 'seem' to be fairly long. I was about 10 or 11 when I was shown the rifle and some of the ammo for it as well as the results of some of her hunts. Even then with a knowledge of firearms that was next to none, one aspect did stand out. To me the shells looked very small for Bears that size compared, for example, to Dads 303 ammo.

This at first glance doesn't look like anything special when it come to a savage 99. It looks like a nice 50's savage 99 EG

But considering the serial number is 392,7xx which makes it a 1940 DOM, then add to that the caliber 30-30. It is a slightly harder to find savage. The 99EG with checkered stocks was only produced in 30-30 for about 3 years. Savage never offered the 30-30 after WWII in a 99. From 1935 - 1938 the 99EG had uncheckered stocks.

Here is a 1938 99EG in 30-30

It has been factory drilled and tapped for a Belding and Mull mount

The front mount screw holes are under the rear sight. Here is a Belding and Mull catalogue with a 99 with the mount on it. But I think when the price of the mount and scope were 1.5 times the price of the rifle, very few were sold. I have yet to come across one on a rifle.

Trying to keep this thread on page one here is another interesting Model 94 Carbine. This little carbine is in the wonderful .30-30 caliber and made in 1956. The interesting part of this gun is the engraving. It is not factory engraved but has been done by a real master. The frame, lever, bolt, barrel and barrel ban are all engraved and there are sliver inlays of an Elk on one side and deer on the other side. This gun is engraved in the same style as another Winchester carbine that i picked up a few years ago. The stocks have been checkered in the Winchester styling and there is also a very nice relief carving of a bear on the stock. This has been no safe queen but has been used and hunted with,
