Mossberg Tactical .22 FLAT TOP!!!!!

I chopped mine carry handle model as well. Got tired of waiting. I shortened the forend ,chopped the handle, added a mounting rail sprayed it in a tiger stripe/slash style camo and drilled and taped the receiver to attach the rail. I also fixed the magazine opening so the mag doesn't rattle back and forth.
Had a lot of fun doing this project
Turned out pretty good.
I'd post picks but haven't figured out how to yet. Still working on that.

What 6" rail did you guys go with and how much was it?
I've seen rails go for $60-120 bucks. If that's the cost, would rails for paintball guns work?
I've taken off the side rails on the mossy, don't use them anyway. I'd cut them up and use them but they aren't very straight.

I used a rail for a 10-22 SR I think? I bought it at William's Arms(Port Perry Ont.) for $30.It was around 8" long when I bought it. My install was more involved than just bolting it on. I inletted the top of the plastic frame to install it and then used some glass bedding to give it a solid base. My computer with all the pics of the change over is in for repairs so I don't even have those available at this point. If you want pics send me your email address and I'll forward some to you. I can open it up and take some pics of it finished so it will make more sense of what I'm talking about..

Check ebay for airsoft rails, $15-20 shipped. Just make sure you get the right size, the larger of the 2 available but I can't remember the exact size, 12mm maybe?

As far as I know, the mossberg flat top is prohibated from leaving the US. My guess would be it's the same for all threaded barrel guns. Like the sr22. It's a new law so stores may have old product. However I bet there are a ton for guns getting held up at the boarder unable to cross.
If anyone can confirm or state the facts, it would be wonderful!!!!

are you saying because the barrel is threaded it can't leave the US, or are you saying the threaded barrel is not allowed in canada?? Can you quote the law?? thanks.

From what I read, it has to do with the US side of the border that doesn't allow the shipment of said firearm into Canuckistan because of the scary flash hider.

Yes, it's stupid ... but so are a lot of other things.

It is a new, thanks to that a**hole Obumma, export restriction in the US. It is supposedly because of the threaded barrel not the flash hider but I will be finding out more as soon as I can speak to my contact.

my mossy finished..stuff the flat top!

hi there, well what with all the problems that seem to be stalling the arrival of the flat top i am really glad i didnt wait, the extra bolt on goodies have arrived and been fitted to my older 702 tac 22, and the shortened handguard now sports the rail covers, the an/peq laser flashlight, (which works really well i have to say) the folding grip handle, and the bipod, plus my genuine M9 bayonet (not the plastic airsoft one) all i am waiting for now is the metal front sight with bayonet lug to replace the plastic one, but they look identical so for the purposes of the pics it doesn't matter, so since i am seemingly completely inept at getting my pics to show on here, i am posting a photobucket link with the pics of the shortened handguard and the finished item, i am really happy with it, once again a shout out to nwo, who slod me the gun, and to ebay for extra the parts!!

as for the flat top! well if it's going to be so much trouble to get them, and extra money on the price when they do arrive, this just goes to show that they can stuff it, the standard handle verson is easily convertable and cheaper!, (ps i kept the handle becase i actually like it, and i use open sights anyway, but a red dot may be put on there one day!) we'll see!!!

So it is a threaded barrel, why cant the exporter just open the box and put a quick weld on the flash hider? Then its permanent and the barrel is no longer threaded for all intensive purposes because you cant get the flashider off.

I don't think Cabelas would go to that extent even with 500+ rifles ordered. My guess is Mossberg will come out with a say Canadian / California version. I also bet it will take 6+ month till we see one.
So as other have resorted to, I'll be next in line to chop off my handle. I think I'll also cut off the front sight and make a barrel shroud.

Mossberg is the exporter and I would imagine it would be a lot easier for them to just run a batch with the non-threaded barrels. Only time will tell if that is going to happen but I wonder why they took them off their site and if that signifies some changes coming up. When I hear something I will let everyone know.

would be nice if they ran with the non threaded barrel, they could make or supply a slip on flash hider that fits right! then every tac 22 owner could get one for the older models
