Shorten PAL Approval Times

I'm approaching day 200

Took the course July 23/24, 2011. Got my stamped test results back first week of August and mailed it in right away.

Its been sitting on the desk at the Ontario CFO office for 4 months now (since early October). I have called pretty much weekly and every time the person looks it up and forwards me to the direct line of the person who has my application (they wont give me the number but will redirect me no problem). Each and every time I leave voice mail with my name, application number, date of birth, and phone number and I have as of yet to receive a return call.

I am told that on the system there are no holds or issues listed and all it needs is final approval.

My current theory is that the person who has my application has died and no one she works with knows yet. They all think shes on vacation or something.

FML

I had the same problem maybe it`s the same woman that had mine doesn`t matter how many times you call she will never return your call. call this number 705 329-5524 it is a direct line she put me on hold and approved it while I waited.

I took the CFSC and challenged restricted and passed we were given a white copy of the results and such. What is this "stamped copy of the result" all about? I thought the exam result is the one given by the instructor right after the exam. Isn't that the one you need to attach for your PAL application? I live in saskatchewan.

You are lucky, in Ontario your instructor mails out your test results and you have to wait for the "stamped test results" in the mail.

^ Yep. That's where I am right now going to get everything in order in the next week so as soon as those results show up its sent in that day.

^ I'm probably going to have the long wait anyways. I'm a first time applier for my RPAL so they have to do the interviews and everything anyways. I'm not worried about waiting. Gives me time to save up some dough and do some research on what I want to purchase.

Do it anyway. Mine took one week from faxing in the test results (Monday) to interviews (Thursday) to approved (Friday) because I had mailed everything in a month earlier. Seriously... might as well wait out your 28 day waiting period while you wait for your test results... otherwise you just end up waiting twice.

My PAL to RPAL Upgrade

Hi Everyone,

I'm a former recreational pistol shooter returning to the sport following a 13 year break. When licensing flipped from the FAC rulebook to the PAL regime, I did not check off the restricted box on my initial application :)onCrack:) and therefore have held a non-restricted PAL for the last 10 years or so.

I took the courses (both non-restricted and restricted combined) in 1996 and checked with the CFC who confirmed that they have the results on file, so I was good there. On my form I was told to mark 'proof on file'.

Here is the timeline:

Jan. 9 - ExpressPost Application to Miramichi
Jan. 12 - Application arrival
Jan. 17 - Website indicates application received Jan. 12
Jan. 24 - Status updated - Completed initial processing, in progress. Note there is no 28 day waiting period as I am an existing license holder.
Jan. 26 - Called, told that the application is waiting to be scanned, no issues.
Jan. 30 - Called, no issues with application, had interview.
Feb. 2,3 - Both references were contacted, wife was not.
Feb. 7 - Status updated to 'License Issued - receive within 2 weeks'

Not bad at all, will update when the card arrives.

Thanks for the advice in this thread, answered a lot of my questions.

An update, my application was approved Jan 31st and got my card today, Feb 7th, exactly one week after being approved.

update on me, called the regional firmarms officer today, was told i need to come in for a interview as there was conflicting information on my application. When asked why not over the phone I was told..... how do i know you are who you claim to be (who trys to get other peoples applications approved?!?!?!)

Better question is how do they know my references are who they claim to be.

Gahhhh thats my rant. Monday morning ill find out what stupidity held me back.

Hi guys, my first post here. I've been lurking for a while.

I just sent my PAL and R-PAL application in last Thursday. So far this is my timeline.

Jan 28th + 29th - Passed both PAL and RPAL courses flying colors
Jan 30th - Mailed my application to Miramichi Via xpresspost
Feb 2nd - Arrival according to Canada post tracking
Feb 7th - Called to confirm they received it but according to them hasn't entered the system yet.

I am in BC. Is it normal for it to take a while to show up online?

Also when filling out my application I checked my postal code on google maps. It showed it as V5N 4A1. after i sent it in and speaking to canada post they actually said my postal code is V5N 4A2. do you think this matters at all? I mean all my mail comes to my address and i have been giving out my postal code as V5N 4A1 for a while now (including my drivers license).

If I call and ask them to change it when it appears online will it be fine? or do they need to send me some sort of form to change the postal code that will make it take 30+ days longer??

Thanks.

I don't know about the postal code issue but from the date I sent mine in. (13th of Jan) To the date it showed up online (25th of jan) was 12 days. I checked every day and when it showed up online it showed as received on the 17th.

So it sounds like you are still within a normal timeframe to me.

I'm from BC. I just did my interview and they said they had already talked to my refs. Going good I think. :)

To the first question, No. You cannot push to get it online. The moment they open your letter and enter your name into the computer, it shows up online and you can call to confirm paperwork, correct anything, or see if they require any additional information.

You second question relates to the first. As far as I've seen, every application goes online and is corrected/ammended from there. Once you see it online, you can call and correct your info. In Ontario, that's around 11-14 days after they receive it. The clock starts ticking from the day they receive it though... so don't worry yet. Once you see it online, call in. "Hi there, Mr. Vancouver here. Calling to make sure you receive all the required documents. I also need to correct my Postal code, I put a '1' instead of a '2' for the last digit, sorry about that."

thats less than 28 days

Because he's renewing, not awaiting a new license. Same as your drivers license; You get a M1, it expires. Walk back in, you can write M1, pass it, and write/ride for M2 immediately because you've already done the wait period. Done it myself.

HOLY! I just called the CFP.

I did PAL+RPAL course early January at Silvercore (Awesome peeps by the way).
Jan 13th - Registered mailed RPAL completed form
Jan 24th - Showed up on website as received on the 17th.
Feb 6th - Missed two calls by CFP and called them back yesterday for interview. They said reference interviews were already done.

I just called today (Jan 7th) and its all approved!

Just waiting on the 28 day waiting period to elapse! :D

I am totally amazed. Thank you for this thread!

When I get home from work I'm buying me some guns! hehe

Congrats! I wish it was so simple in Ontario!:(

For ON residents: Just spoke with someone in Orillia, they are currently processing test results from the first week of Jan. (01 - 08) hopefully I will receive my stamped results soon seeing how my 28 day waiting period is over and all they need is the stamped results.

^ That cements it I was going to wait for them but screw that applications going in this week. I just finished my course this last weekend. I'm not waiting along for a month for results.

Bet you're glad you sent in your application early now, aren't you?
