KSG status

I see all over the states that stores can't get near as many as they need. It looks like keltec is getting them out as fast as they can make them, but the demand is just huge. The reviews have been saying very positive things about the improvements they made over the prototypes, and people are going nuts for them.

Looks like kel-tec has a real home run with this firearm. :) I'd love to have one but i've got my eyes on a few other guns first, so i'll wait for a future batch.

Me too and in a year or so hopefully we will just be able to go on line here and order one ,,in stock!
Then again maybe a savey competitor will see the demand and come up with another fantastic shotty!

Having just read this entire 100+ post thread, I must say there are some real dicks posting here. Way to come on board a dealer thread who's making available yet another product which is probably making Wendy pee her pants, and your #####ing about the retail $$$. For Fu@k sake if you dont like it dont buy it. It really doesnt get any simpler than that. Fu@k CGN never ceases to amaze me.

+1,some guy's are never happy.....big shout out to dealers who try to stock all the neat stuff.

There is one distributor who is the only one who Kel-tec is dealing with.

Monopolies leave as bad of a taste in my mouth as the gun control crowd.

That's what i'm thinking. Eventually they'll start to catch up with demand and stores will have them on the shelves for longer than 2 seconds :)

Well there IS one that is very similar that just hit the market. Of course - it's several hundred dollars more as well. Which is more than i'm prepared to pay. but - for those who can't wait it's out there :)

I figured i scored beating out several others for my ranch hand, i'll let others go first with the kel-tec and hopefully next year it'll be on the shelves enough that i'll be able to grab one.

It's not a monopoly, they're not making it hard for anyone to compete with them, it's simply a matter of no one else wanting to front the capital to make a stab at being another distributor.

It's like if you own a convenience store in a small town, you're the only place in town that sells milk, so you can really charge whatever that milk is worth to you. People that live in that town have a choice to either buy the milk from you, or drive to the Wal Mart in the next town over. The question, as it directly relates to this problem is, will the trip to the next town over cost more than it will save you on the milk?

Is it just me or should we be reluctant to by the 1st generation anything gun? Usually first generations are full of quirks. Where are people getting their info (other than nutnfancy) to know what this thing looks like inside?Just my 0.02cents.

There's some youtube vids, plus they've been out for a while in the states. ktog forums are a good source of info for kel tec firearms.

It's actually more like a second gen. They allowed a number of the prototypes to be shot and handled and made a few minor changes.

The reviews are quite positive and while any new platform may have problems over the long haul, this gun seems to work pretty solidly.

And for gods sake - stop watching nutin fancy :)

For what we know, I'm dead positive we're beyond 1st Gen KSG's by now. The demand outstrips supply and if you and I are still waiting for one, I'm not surprised we'll receive something like 2nd or 3rd Gen to reach Canada.... and if the design is fine, it really doesn't matter.

Any week now.... I hope that KSG shipment rolls in...

It most certainly is a monopoly. A monopoly is not defined by malicious intent on the part of the firm. A monopoly can exist regardless of whether or not the firm "mak[es] it hard for anyone to compete." They exist where a firm sells a product at a price well above marginal cost because competition is weak or non-existent.

Your milk example describes a spatial monopoly. Even the most conservative economists agree that this constitutes a market failure warranting intervention.

So by all means, fire up your own company, and 'intervene'.
I eagerly await the competitive pricing you'll offer....

Name a handful of "conservative" (e.g., someone not a keynesian) economists that think government should intervene because my corner store has expensive milk, forcing me to either a) pay "too much" or b) spend money and time driving to a larger town to buy "cheaper" milk (as you summed it up, a spatial monopoly). That is precisely the circumstance I live in, and I don't want the government to "intervene".

Having said that, yes, the Canadian Kel-Tec distributor has a monopoly, at least until someone else puts up the cash and resources to become a distributor. There is a school of thought that suggests that the only true monopolies are government-granted (e.g., Bell Canada until deregulation, with countervailing arguments about "natural" monopolies such as electrical power distribution to my house), but let's leave that aside.

I expect that Vault is using monopoly pricing to maximize their profits. I rather hope so, as this ensures a continued supply of Kel-Tec products.

It is always as simple as "if you don't like the price, don't buy it". People survived on Mossbergs before KSGs became available, and they will survive after.

Early adopters will pay more - as they always do, referencing things like the PS3 launch - and others will wait with varying degrees of patience until the prices come down to a level they like, if that ever happens.
