Kalashnikov 5: Brand-New AK-12 Rifle Unveiled

ok in my undrestanding this AK12 is not built on an AK 47 platform. it loox like an AK but its not even close. CAN WE GET THEM IS SEMI's?

Sure....In about 20 years, if all the stars align properly, we win every single election until then, and have someone willing to risk a shipment being confiscated because some official feels like it:)

Still, because of the persistance of some dedicated individuals and businesses, we have some stuff that I never thought we'd ever have. Never stop trying!

Looks like they copied/utilized the magpul/surefire magazine designs too. That looks to be 60-100 round feed box mag.

I heard about the Russians developing quad stack AK magazine before Magpul and Surefire probably even offered magazines. The quad stack Russians may go as far back as the '90s Abakan program.

Swiss Arms had that too, with their rifles too... Swiss quality, with the heart of an AK....

You got it all wrong. It was surefire/magpul who ripped off the Russian Ak-74 quad stack. In fact, there were quad stack magazines used in some firearms as early as 1930's - before the founders of Surefire/Magpul were even born.

You're absolutely right, but there is still a generational/institutional influence present both inside and outside the government that will influence (either negatively or positively) developments for years to come....

I am very aware of that as my family is Russian, I still have family who live there and I travel to that part of the world often. That is not what he said in his post, he just said communism, which is extremely ignorant.

Never mind though, you seem to know so much about Russia, you must have a lot of first hand experience, so I should just keep my mouth shut.

same thing here, we might have a conservative government now, but it would take years to be rid of the liberal influence/employee's in all the departments.

Anyway this thing looks like a piece of crap.

And here I thought I was agreeing with you.....(confused).

That is the problem with written conversations, it is sometimes difficult to understand the correct intentions and evaluate what the writer is actually trying to say. I suppose this is a good example as you were agreeing, while I assumed you were disagreeing with me statement.

Sorry for derailing the thread.

Sorry for derailing the thread.

I'm shocked and dismayed. I've never derailed a thread myself:rolleyes: , but I've heard of people doing it, and being shunned as a result. This one time, a guy said... oh wait, I'm doing it.

Back on topic, what is there to improve on the AK platform, other than modernizing optics? It's the cartridge that holds back the platform, and realistically, other guns can be employed around it's short-comings. As long as your conflict remains averaged at 300 meters or less (the AR being accurate beyond this, but arguably less effective), the AK and AR platforms perform admirably.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it. IMHO.

The 7.62x39 may be effective range challenged in an AK (not counting Sako etc) but that's not true of one's chambered in 5.45 and certainly 6.5 Grendel.

The AK-74 was already very close in accuracy to the M-16, the AK-12 seems to have some mechanical accuracy improvements over the AK-74 as well as what appears to be a much better iron sight setup for distance shooting, not to mention a proper top rail for optics.

Anyways there seems to be a trend towards increasing specialization in Russian combat rifles, and while the AK might remain their primary issue it might not be the only design to see widespread service in the Russian forces of the near future.
