Mossberg Tactical .22 FLAT TOP!!!!!

Like most here, we are sick of waiting. I jumped on the band wagon and cut my handle off and front sight. Now I'm looking for a barrel shroud.

Any ideas on what I can use guys????????
Thanks!

I got tired of waiting to. Cut the handle and installed aluminum rail.If you want to do something to the front just shorten the forend.

nice camo job, a coat of flat clear coat will get rid of the shine, but looks great well done:cheers:

I agree.
I didn't want a satin/semi gloss finish but it was all I could find at the time.I've been looking for clear flat for a while now and haven't found it yet. It will get the "flat" treatment as soon as I do locate some.
That camo is really easy to do.
Take a piece of cardboard from a box(cereal box works great)and with a utility knife cut irregular long curved shapes like branches on a tree or leaves or trace tree branches and cut them out.You don't want wide lines for this. I use 3 different patterns minimum.
For the paint I used the Hunters Specialties camo kit. it comes with 4 colours. Start with the lightest color and spray all areas to be painted and let dry over night. Don't go crazy with a heavy coat. You will be adding more paint to this base. Just a nice light covering coat will do.Let dry over night. I reassembled rifle and taped off what I didn't want painted. Use your patterns and spray randomly on areas you want camo'd. Working from lightest color to darkest. Do each color and let dry for at least a couple of hours minimum. When you spray the pattern hold your template almost on the gun and swing the spray across the pattern so it is misted and shadowy without too many sharp lines. As you spray stop after each couple of blasts of paint and wipe off the over spray on both sides of your spray template with paper towel to avoid drips landing on your project( live and learn!!). Stop and look at how things look frequently to avoid too much of one color in the same area. When your happy your finished. This paint takes a couple of days to harden up so let it dry before too much use. I put on a top coat as well because the paint seemed to rub off a little.
Good luck .
Scott..

Damn nice. However the seat height must be a #####. It was for me at 5" I use an HD7 red dot. I like the cheap 2x add on. At 25+ yds it really helps.
So does your cheek touch the stock? I had to put my chin on the stock to see the sights. That's the big reason why I chopped mine. Now it's totally lined up. Even cut the front sight off once I was happy with the setup.
I'm looking for something to make a batrel shroud out of. Does anyone have any ideas???
Thanks!

It's been on their website for over 6 months. They have never received any in stock. I'm not sure why they even bother to put it on their website.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but I had one ordered about a month ago. Phoned Cabelas to see what the deal was and they told me the rifles are "discontinued". Cabela's will no longer be ordering or stocking them. I was pretty angry, but I ordered a SR22 instead. Happy I went the quality route.

Hi, yeah it is a nice sight, and yeah it does sit very high, but i can still change head position on the stock from iron sights (through the mount) to the red dot and still keep contact with the stock, but yeah it does bother me that its so high, but in my plan of all plans! i will be either getting a flat top or getting another tac 22 and converting it so the redt dot will probably go onto the flat top and will leave the iron sight / laser combo on this one, as like i said in an earlier post, i do like the handle and sort of standard AR look of the thing, so one day f the gods of gunpowder are good to me, i will have 2 tac 22s one flat one with handle, so at least i will have a choice depending on what kind of shooting i want to do, but to be brutally honest.......i can shoot just as accurately with iron sights as i can with a red dot, maybe even a little more accurate with iron sights, due to the red dot size over target at distance etc, for true accuracy a telescopic sight would need to be installed, but for the kind of shooting i will be doing with a 22, i dont need one,

As for a barrel shroud, do you mean a flash hider, or a tube to fit over the barrel to make it look fatter or like it has a back fit silencer on? if so take apart an oil filter from a car (clean new ones are cheap) inside is a tube with nice neat holes in it, you can make up rubber grommets, or use some large 0 rings, or make some kind of mounting for it to slide over the barrel, wont do anything but look good, but what to use all depends on what you want it to look like, the barrel never really gets that hot even with heavy plinking, so you could use pvc pipe , anyway let me know what you want to accomplish with the shroud and i will put my thinking cap on,

As for the last poster saying the flat tops are discontinued, was that from mossbergs line up or cabellas? cos i can see cabella dropping it from their catalogue due to supply problems, so maybe (hopefully) thats what they meant, as the flat top was still on show at the shot show on mossbergs stand just a short while ago, so any clarification on the dscontinued thing would be great, cheers,

shroud

Wow awesome advise. Yes I'm looking for a barrel shroud. I think we'll see the flat top just not until late fall. But that's just a guess.

hey little wolf, guess what i found on good old ebay, a mossberg tac 22 4 inch shroud, http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Mossberg-Tactical-22-Short-Barrel-Shroud-4-5-inches-Made-USA-/260902423528?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbeff0be8 have a look, it is made for the plain moss barrel, hope this helps, cheers,

I found that also but I thought because it's in the US, I'd have issues getting it imported.
Are barrel shrouds legal to buy/make in Canada? I heard that the US gov't is trying or maybe already has banned barrel shrouds.
Does anyone know?

who knows with all the rumours and stupid restrictions that seem to have no foundation in logic, as far as i know, and i am happy to be corrected if i am wrong, a shroud doesnt actually do anything other than enhance the look, it is not a silencer or moderator both of which i think are illegal in canada, so basicly its just a pretty piece for the gun so i dont know why it would be banned, so maybe fire an email off to cfc or give them a call, they have been very helpful to me whenever i called, and then you would know for sure rather than getting any wrong info from me or others,

Good point, that's why I was thinking about making my own. Plus it would be out of metal which IMO looks alot better than plastic.
Wish the mossy was more metal however I'd take weight over materials almost every time.

I was at Cabella's in Winnipeg today to by a Savage 93R17 BESV and the lasy there said they were getting another shipment of the Mossberg Tacical's in AND they were getting in a wack of the flat top's as well this time! I told em to call me when they arrive, as im getting one for my son!
