Thureon Defense - Gun #### PIC HEAVY

Don't think I would take this one to the range when other people are around lol, it would be like getting caught ridding a Moped

Ok I'm checking Brownell's for some covers. I'll see if I can find any that I like.

My understanding is that you can purchase the "Level Rail" from Thureon Defense for about $55. I'm going to contact them about this on Monday. You can put iron sight on the main Picatinny rail but the sight line is pretty short. Another option is a AR barrel sight with a handle sight on the rail.

The mags you receive from Arms East (or any other dealer since Arms East is the importer) with the rifle are pinned at 5. The pistol version of the mags are coming very soon and will be pinned at 10. I can't imagine how much ammo I will go through with a 10 round mag.

Does anyone have a picture of this carbine with a more traditional Glock magazine? Does the mag come down straight or does it kick back on an angle like the JR Carbine? The uzi mags apperar to be fairly straight.........

It's angled.

Alright so we are back from another round at the range. I'm not sure how many rounds we put through the carbine cause there was 3 of us shooting multiple guns. We shot 900-1000 rounds total today. I would guess about 150 - 200 through the carbine.

Not one hiccough. We did discover one little oddity. If you insert the mag with the charging handle locked back, its possible to insert the mag too far causing a jam up. This was easily fixed by simply pulling down on the mag after inserting.

I really am loving the UZI mags. Anyone that has used top loading mags before will know what I mean. So easy to load, and you could beat someone to death with them if required. They are made from super heavy steel.

Anyway.. I can hardly wait to shoot it outside at one of those reactive ball targets.

I believe Hickock had the same issue with the glock version in the video above...he found it easier to insert the mag with the bolt forward then #### and chamber.
Thanks for the reports!

It can actually be spelled either way..

Hiccup is considered more new age and slang. Also.. It would be a good idea to read the whole thread before commenting.

As to the mag problem.. Yes Hickok45 had the same issue. The problem is at my range I have to leave the bolt open when I put the rifle down. So it makes it a pain to close the action, insert the mag, then recharge the action. With a simple tug downward I can avoid that and insert the mag with the action opened, then lower to chamber a round.

I was just bugging you and Can-down :)

I did read the whole thread.
What kind of comments of mine are you referring to?

The fact that the glock mags take 10 rounds.. There are UZI based pistol mags (10 round) coming so that really doesn't matter.

Can_Down was referring to a user on youtube that does gun videos. His name is Hickok45, he was not saying hiccup. ;)

I know. I made a joke. I have put an emoticon there.

I've read that before in a post of yours.
Who sez that? Do you really believe it?

Regarding the Uzi mag issue, Uzi magazines are limited to 5 rounds (including pistol versions) in the magazine regulations. See here:

Magazine Options

After perusing the online forums, it is obvious that we need to clarify the magazine utilization issue.

The Thureon Defense carbine is made to use most magazines designed for the Colt AR-15 9mm carbine. We have tested aftermarket magazines from C-Products, ProMag Industries, Rock River Arms, and USA Magazines. They all work, but some work very well, some work fairly well, and the rest work just OK. Please note that magazines from any of those sources require modification as described below.

The magazines supplied with our carbines are modified 32 round Uzi mags. We cut the necessary release notch in the side of the magazine body and a relief in the back of the magazine for the Lula Loaders, and we reform the follower so that the bolt doesn’t ride over the rim of the last couple of rounds. We also grind a little material off of the ejection-side feed lip to reduce interference with the ejecting empty cartridges. These modifications result in a magazine that outperforms anything else we have tested.

We will modify any magazines to be used in our carbines for $15.00 each, plus shipping. If you have or find a stash of Uzi mags, send them to us and we will make them work for you.

Since there are 10 round 9mm AR-15 pistol magazines already on the Canadian market (https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=490), the option for 10 rounders in this version of the carbine does exist. They just won't be 10 round Uzi mags.
