Has anyone seen a No4 rifle that has no charger bridge?
I have one that is almost identical to yours.
It looks like it was fitted with a PH rear sight as well at one time but the front sight protectors are missing.
It started life as a Savage. It looks like the DCRA numbers were ground off the receiver.
The receiver is D&Ted for a side mount scope, not a military scope though.
It also came with a proper LB sniper cheek piece and of course is in 7.62x51.
The rifle is in the 54C###X range and is marked with flaming bomb stamps as well as electropenciled 308.
Someone made a rough but serviceable modification to the mag to have it accept 7.62x51 rounds in a single stack and the stock is in VG+ condition. The rifle has also been glass bedded.
It's very accurate in the right hands, with the scope mounted on it.
If you want some pics, send me your email in a PM and I will send some your way.
I heard, there was a tech on the Chilliwack base that was doing the work. Rumor only but supposedly he did several.
Mine doesn't look like a CA conversion although it may have started life as one.
The bolt on mine, matches the receiver number.
I just noticed, there isn't a front sight at all but there are bayo lugs and the muzzle end is marked 7.62 with a CA stamp.
Now, I'm wondering if CA didn't make up a batch of rifles with the charger bridge milled off????
Thanks for getting me to look at the rifle again. I haven't looked closely at it for at least a year.
Wheaty, if you are following this thread, could you maybe shed some light on these rifles????
