280AI or 30-06

Again... I can only see your reasoning being valid if the choice of convenience caused the purchaser to buy an inadequate cartridge.... which it did not....

What I am trying to get across here is that not everyone is interested in an uncommon cartridge... in fact most aren't.... just because people do not have a "passion" for load development and cartridge choice doesn't mean they are not good hunters or as you said "lack common sense"....

I think someone who can only afford one big game rifle buying a .30-06 because of the convenience of ammunition (readily available, will be around for years etc) shows good common sense....

In fact, I will go you one further and say that someone buying an oddball cartridge he can't afford to shoot and has to special order because he doesn't reload would show a "lack of common sense".... should we belittle everyone for buying such a "boring" rifle?.....

OK, first off "stop stating what it did not state"......did not mention "common scense." Second, stop assuming. Third, stop making hypothetical scenario's. Fourth, stop putting words in my mouth. Fifth, I'm not talking about the 280 AI. I "KNOW" that the 30-06 is a great classic cartridge...................it's one of my favorite cartridges, I've owned 10 of them. It's the mind-set of ammuntion convienence.....that's all. This is fact and it has been mentiond a magnitude of times of this forum and other forums. People go purchase a 30-06 because other people tell them about cartridge convienence.
You and other people are misunderstanding my point..........I'm not comparing a domesticated wildcat cartridge with the 30-06. Cartridge convienence.......very poor excuse to purchase a firearm. That's it, that's all!

Give me a break. The most 'into it' hunters, that I know and hunt with, shoot 270Win, 338WM, and 30-06Sprgfld. Pretty boring chamberings by your definition. They shoot a bunch too, almost every day for one of them. Sure wouldn't call them spectators cause they don't care to shoot a 280AI...

Exactly!

I would bet that 99.99999% of CGN don't practice shooting their rifles on regular basis to make themselves better shooters or hunters.

Yup, thats it :slap:. Your the only one around here who shoots on a regular basis Laugh2. How much do you want to put down on that bet?

At least 500 rounds a year I shoot with my big game guns and not off the bench either.:slap:

That's a good start.

A fellow member here and I just had a conversation with a fellow who has shot over 180 head of game alone with the 270 Winchester and 130 TSX. That does not include other bullets in that particular cartridge. Poor bugger needs to get with the times apparently.

As for one line innuendoes. I could reduce them to one word but it would be rude.

There are DOZENS of cartridges that do the same thing in the real world. Choosing a readily available cartridge is actually a smart move, not a poor one.

I can reduce it to one word as well Chuck and I have the hairy ones to say it.

Still "PhotoShop" your animals on line? I shoot the real thing without photoshop there Chucky. Consider it a compliment because that s the best I can say about you.

Really, wow!

I have shot close to that this year alone and I have only just begun, but who really cares... Do you Weatherby lovers ever stop trying to brag? ;)

You should really use your head before coming to a place like Canadian Gun Nutz that has somewhere around 85000 members and making claims such as this:

Not all of us here are the few shots a year, pull out the one rifle before season deer hunters...

Yes and most of them are off the bench. Like I said, not my idea of practicing. Once the gun is zeroed it's prone, sitting, kneeling and a post. Thats where most of my shots are taken from. I've belonged to 5 rifle ranges and in my 40 years of rifle range shooting only guys who shoot from various positions are the guys with black guns or handguners, not hunters. To me this what makes a hunter a better marksman and results are proven in the field with good clean humane kills.

Excuse me!!!! You had better get your facts straight!

I haven't seen you anywhere around my place this year when I have been shooting or hunting or any other year for that matter. Yes, I shoot from a bench when doing load development or dialing in scopes etc. etc.(which I do allot of) but I also spend allot of my time from field positions(which I also do allot of).

Yup, thats right Track, you are the only one that shoots, does lots of load development and practices with centerfire rifles throughout the year:rolleyes:.

Seriously, give it a rest!

I wasn't asking for you to justify yourself as a shooter, hunter or reloader. Sorry that you took it personally. I guess that it's only you and I in this big old world that practices other than the bench. Would you happen to know anyone else who does the same?...........I don't.;)
Edit: What range do you belong to? This year I frequent the Medicine Hat Range, in fact I just sent my son home there with 50 rounds of 7mm STW load development. This was the first year in 5 years that I did not renew my Oldman River membership. I will have to contact Dan in Lundbreck to renew once I receive the 6.5x284.;)

No Archie, it was a Kimber Montana chambered for a 308 Winchester. Shot the barrel out after 250 rounds. I then threw it in the big 45 gallon barrel beside the Savages.;)

Mail it to me, ill send you 100$ to put towards a real stock for your Cooper ;)

My montanas got 200 rounds through it so far...almost time for a re-barrel...

There are lots of guys here at CGN that shoot that much, I was refering to your 99.99999% statement. And yes, I do know quite a few guys that shoot that much, some of them much more and many of them are members here(most actually).

PM sent on the rest...

To late, some old guy at the range reached down in the barrel, grabbed the Kimber and stated something to this effect in a foreign dialect, "dat will make a gret crowbar".:D

Nice shooting Archie! However, the Remington SAUM is mundane. They were a "want a be" cartridge that didn't sell well in the gun industry. Nothing to be sad about the 243, 25 WSSM, 7mm WSM fell in that category as well. Hang onto that firearm it may be resurrected like the 280 AI and the 6.5x284 Norma.;)

You have to go to a range to shoot? Laugh2

My deck is my bench which means I can do it any time of year and translates into many rounds. I've shot geese off the roof of my house. I've shot deer, squirrels, skunks, coyotes, grouse, ducks, cats, foxes or about every animal conceivable in my yard, and that's not from my "bench".

Assuming you shoot more than most on here is just a touch arrogant and quite ignorant.

Next time remember the saying "it's better to remain quiet and thought of as a fool than speak up and remove all doubt" before posting nonsense.

I hear a squirrel, gotta go "practice". ;)

Very interesting. It appears that you haven't remained to quiet yourself..................hence your miltitude of posts compared to mine. Is that your personal quote, or you standing on the shoulders of the author. At least don't commit plagiarism, give the author some credit.
You just missed the bus............
