Johnson uses Springfield M1903 CHARGERS and .30-06 ammo UNLESS you have one of the super-rare ones in 7x57.
First round IN is last round OUT. You CAN load with loose rounds; just shove them in. UNLOADING is easy, too: push the mag cover all the way IN and hold it while it spits them all out. Feed lips are in the rifle frame: no possibility of wrecking them.
This is a handy mag if you are spotting for an MG or Arty. You can put a couple of Tracers into the mag and fire the round up the pipe; you now have a Tracer under the hammer and can indicate the target at will.
Mag capacity is 10 rounds and I don't think ANYONE has figured out how to screw one up so it will handle only 5. Magazine capacity with the mag off the rifle is ZERO rounds; remove it and it will dump, same as the SAFN-49 but the Johnson mag is a rotary. Big difference is that you have to take the Johnson in half to remove the mag!
Works real good, too.
REALLY interesting point about the Johnson is that the entire rifle can be taken down completely by using only the screwdriver which is built into the Bolt Handle! I have done this, just to prove that the old books were right.
Hope this helps.
