The 760/7600 Club

That 141 sounds like a great find. Can't wait for the photo.
What is the going price on a 760 rifle, later version without the barrel hanger? The picture I have seen looks good, cheapo Tasco with see through (they will get trashed) 3 boxes of ammo (308) and extra mag for $380. Sounds good to me but I'll have to find time to see it.

I will take it!!!!

I just sat and read through all 501 posts and am starting to realize that the 760 in 30-06 I just picked up might be a better deal than I thought. I picked it up at the Kamloops show and it was kind of a second choice but couldn't beat the price. Mine is a little beat up (obviously rode horse back sheathed for may years) and one corner of the fore stock is broken off and has no sling swivels mounted. Any idea were i can find either item? There is nothing on the ee at the moment. I will try and clean it up and post some pictures next week. Nice to see a thread that has lasted for 4 years.:)

Should be able to get the swivels from most shops or retailers. I believe I got mine from lebaron or Cabelas, but any shop can order them. They are Uncle Mike's brand with the front being a barrel band.

I saw one picture where the front swivel was attached to the end cap. Any thoughts on which is better or is it just a case of personal preference?

If you are looking for the original wood forearm be prepared to pay a premium for a good one especially if the basket weave design or pay the high handling and shipping and get one from numrich in the US. Me I would buy a syn stock set for now.
On the swivels end cap are the best but there are two different ones off the top of my head pre 68 guns and post 68 but check that. take care

My personal preference is the barrel band, and have had no issues with accuracy with it. Some feel the one on the end cap is better, I don't.

Better not put one on that short 35W you have, collectors won't like that:)
He's got the sights off it and added a bi-pod as well. .... Soon to have a deer carved on the butt stock with a compass. Bubba has struck a again.

At least it doesn't have see-thru mounts with a 3x9x50 Tasco. :)

That is all good to hear. Just makes one new in the box worth way more:D
I am sure we can find him a set of those mounts if we look:p

I just found this thread and I'm looking forward to reading the whole thing when I have time! For now here's my old 760. My dad gave it to me about 25 years ago. I've shot a moose with it almost every year, usually from the same blind at about 300 yards. He shot his moose every year from the same blind in the same spot for years before.
Yeah, a .270 gets the job done.

Dad bought this rifle from a violin maker that took his elk for years with it. He's the one that did the stock.

A couple of years back I noticed the groups opening up a bit so I bought a 7mm mag. It's an awesome caliber but I decided to ressurect the .270. inspecting the brass I saw a strange lump on the shoulder of all the brass. I went through the chore of removing the barrel and there was a build up of lead on the lower side of the chamber. I guess from feeding round nose ammo.

Anyway, going to the range soon and if she performs she'll get a new scope.

BTW my barrel is stamped C ZZ and the s/n is 88,1XX so I guess it's a first run. April 1953 manufacture date.
