I don't speak Czech. I've been translating (using Google) various Czech web sites to further my knowledge of the vz.24. There is a book by R.J. Berger but I believe its out of print.

But my guess for "HN 260" is that it means "Border Unit/Detachment 260". 'Hraničářský' is border in Czech/Slovak and 'notky' is entity in Slovak according to Google.

Where is this stamped on your pistol?

Front grip strap.

Front grip strap.

OK. That's where I seen it done in some pics. What we need is a native Czech speakers to give an opinion. Or better yet a Czech military history expert.

You could also post on GunBoards. I received the reply to my 'J lion 37' question there.

Pics of an original prewar vz.24 holster found online. I have one coming for my display.

Any chance your grips are from a CZ27? Maybe they are interchangable? Figured they were all made from wood, but yours look great!
An extended barrel would be hard to duplicate on the CZ24 with the helical lugs, and time is money. When I get the time, I'll do my best to acquire one of my own. Thanks for sharing!

Sorry for the late reply - could very well be. I haven't taken the grips off to check but my vz.24 was a late manufacture according to the serial number.

Speculation on my part but the vz.27 was in production and CZ probably just used the the newer grips.

Original issue Czech holster

I was very fortunate to find an original Czech issue holster for my Ceska Zbrojovka v.24 at Collectors Guild (thank you).

It is in great shape for a 86 year old holster. Leather is a little dry but no cracks. It has several faded ink stamps on the inside flap: A Czech Lion which is the Czech military acceptance stamp, a date stamp:1926, and possibly the manufacturer's stamp(s). Plus no German acceptance stamps :D

It has has 5A stamped in the upper left corner. 5th Army perhaps? Or 5th Military District...?

The pistol is a little snug in it. I'm going to have to work on the holster to restore some of its suppleness. But I'm very happy to have found one!:dancingbanana:

Looking for a spare VZ.24 magazine...

So, will CZ27 grips and magazine fit the CZ24? Triple K in the states have both for the CZ27. Maybe send them an e-mail, Looks like your holster will take x2 mags!
What will you use on the leather, saddle soap? Thanks for the pictures.

You're welcome John. Thank you for the heads up on the magazines.

I wouldn't be surprised if the magazines were externally dimensionally the same, although internally they would be different as the vz.24 is a .380 (9mm Short) and the vz.27 is in 7.65mm.

I don't know the dimensions of each pistol but the obvious external differences lies in the serrations being vertical and the slide being slab-sided on the vz.27 instead of the angled serrations and rounded contour to the slide cross-section of the vz.24.

I plan to use Pecard Antique Leather Care to restore the holster.

Oh, were you guys going to adopt him and pass along your 12-6 status? He did the best he could, why rub his nose in it?
Put your energy into fixing the law and lay off a fellow CGN'er. He is on our side.

I'm getting tired of this crap...

that you destroyed...........

what pistol...........all I see is a paper weight

Zziiing! I would rather have someone else have a prohib intact, than me have it neutered. But that's just me.

Drive cars, kiss girls, birds should fly, and guns should shoot.

I'm getting tired of this crap...

So stormbringer, you're a mod here on CGN are you?

That's sad.

I created this thread to share what I learned about the seldom seen Ceska Zbrojovka vz.24 pistol and post pics of the pistol, and less seen prewar Czech vz.24 issue holster. In original condition I might add.

If it offends you and 5440fight so much then go ahead and delete it.

Don't forget to vote in the poll.

Don't sweat it, your opinion is as good as mine, it just hurts me to see it ruined. It was a thing of beauty. I'll look away now. Didn't mean to make you feel picked on, but bringing destroyed guns to the milsurp section is like showing a chinese guy how a ming vase makes a good ashtray. Don't be surprised by the reaction.

...and don't forget to vote.

I already have by going to the effort to post this thread and share what knowledge I have.

And good on you for doing it. You obviously appreciate it, and it shows. The whole dewatt thing is a sore point when the gun can legally be fired in this country, that's all. Nothing personal intended, and thanks for educating some on a rare (now rarer) piece. Ps I don't have prohib on my pal, but I've shot a few owned by those that do, thanks to those members for sharing at the range!

This reminds me of the Sporting shotgun Vs Black shotgun dust up. Maybe time for a Dewat fourum? Changing the law is tuff. If I was a Mod...

I have sent out PMs to everyone that has commented on my thread good or bad. The poll is open to all irregardless whether they have posted or not. It closes in three days.

After that stormbringer who says he is a mod can go ahead and delete this thread. I have the pistol and its original issue holster and can show it to anyone that interested in a PM.

Or any other dewats I may have or purchase in the future. That way those offended by dewats don't have to put up with viewing a thread about one. Unfortunately my dewats are intended for a display that I'm working on so there's the dilemma...

But enough of this crap ...time for hockey! Go L.A.

There is nothing wrong with having a difference in opinion, I'm not always right, just ask my wife! Dewatts are fine in my book if there is no other choice, better that than the smelter! Honestly, I think what set me off about that one, was how horribly poorly it was done. I looks like a high school kid in welding got at it. It just reminds me of the ignorance of our laws regarding firearms, and the babaric way we have stomped on the past in our haste to the brave new world we seem to think we are creating.

You did a great job on the pictures and descriptions, and show an obvious passion for these things, but real love is when you would rather see her happy with someone else, than unhappy and with you. This country still allows those guns to be collected and fired, and I've fired a few thanks to those that preserved them, shoot me if it seems silly for me to be sad this one won't see the range again.

Don't go somewhere else to show them because of me, I won't poo poo in your dewatts threads in the future.

Cheers! -Jake
