Ontario CFO Rocks +++++++

I love Alberta's CFO, since they do my transfers and ATTs within minutes....

I just wish they'd get rid of the "we are closed on Wednesday to better serve you" answering machine message.

I'm sure the Ontario CFO's office is larger and has more staff and a larger operating budget than some of the other provinces, too. Maybe it really comes down to priorities and allocation of resources... (or lack thereof).

Considering LGR is gone, they should redirect staff in Restricted FA Transfers and related services.

10 days ? ...:nest:

I guess they've improved from the "3-week standard"....;)

Anyone ever wonder just what "hocus-pocus-magic" the CFO presumably does :stirthepot2: , in "approving" restricted firearms ?.....:yingyang:

As an Ontario resident... Over the years I've had restricted transferes approved withing minutes and others... Weeks.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason for the varying amounts of time it takes to process these transactions...
I mean really... If anti gun zealots continue to flog the notion that registering guns is no different than registering cars... We should be able to transfer guns as quick as it takes to change the ownership papers for a vehicle.

Maybe they have a star rating on your file in Ont.

I had one Ontario restr, transfer done in what I'll call 6 business hrs (don't know if they work between Friday afternoon and Monday morning) and another in 24 hrs.

Whiners and phone call checker-uppers get 1 star, offering dinner to the "voice" gets 5 stars (five stars being the highest and most deserving of benfits)

:):)

I'll have to buy another to see if my theory is right.....

He has a crystal ball that he can look into and make sure you are worthy of your purchase.

Bought two guns; one 10 days ago the other two days ago. Call the Ontario CFO this am to enquire about the former and asked if they would consider doing both requests at the same time. I asked if I could consult online but there is no system to do that. They offered to email me when they would approve them... And a little under ONE hour later I got a call from them to say their email system was down but they did not want to leave me in the lurch so they called to say both are approved!!! Wow thanks CFO for this exemplary level of service.:)

So much fail... where to begin?

In Alberta, transfers are usually SAME DAY.

What does the CFO do? They run the make, model and serial number to make sure there are no registry duplication errors and that it's not been reported stolen, then they check to make sure your license and club membership are not expired. 5 minutes of database work - which a bureaucrat managed to stretch out to 10 days.

Probably too busy enforcing their "Chris Wyatt backdoor registry".

My last transfer took 30+ days.....

I tried calling the Ontario CFO on multiple occasions during this time to see what was taking so long. Never connected, their line was always busy.

Contacting the Ombudsman is also a pointless waste of time. All they do is speed up your transfer if they can get threw to the CFO by phone, and the system itself doesn't get fixed. I thought the point of having an Ombudsman was fixing problems, not just giving the people who call special treatment. Seems a little messed up to me.

Whenever I talk to the Ontario CFO it's always the same old story they have been saying for the past two years "we are very busy, we are getting more staff soon, there was a backlog, blah blah".

Clearly there's a big problem with this organization. It's very frustrating that they're treating Ontario gun owners with total disrespect while we're trying to comply with the law.

So you're impressed that a gov. bureaucrat gave you permission to take home what you're legally entitled to, and paid for, .........and it only took him 10 days and an hour. Don't forget too that you have to have his permission to pick it up and take it to the range too. Your standards aren't exactly high. Like my dad says, "You can get used to a hiding!"

My last five handgun purchases from Ontario stores have all been approved within hours. Literally. 3 of them were purchased from Al Simmon's in the morning and approved by early afternoon.

Whereas private transfers still take 1-3 weeks on average..

Backlog? I do not think so.

Fantastic...the CFO approved a transfer after 10 days when the CFC did it in 10 seconds.

Nothing like praising a completely useless level of bereaucracy
