Ontario CFO Rocks +++++++

I bought a Glock from Target, that they had to order in as they had just sold out. I bought it on a Saturday, it was approved and ready to be picked up on the following Wednesday. 4 days and that includes ordering it from wherever they order from. Meanwhile my private transfers have taken 3 weeks. There is no backlog, just a bunch of beauracrats that want to keep their jobs since the demise of the LGR and are running a deliberate backlog to make it appear as if they are understaffed.

Bought two guns; one 10 days ago the other two days ago. Call the Ontario CFO this am to enquire about the former and asked if they would consider doing both requests at the same time. I asked if I could consult online but there is no system to do that. They offered to email me when they would approve them... And a little under ONE hour later I got a call from them to say their email system was down but they did not want to leave me in the lurch so they called to say both are approved!!! Wow thanks CFO for this exemplary level of service.:)

I got a 2 gram lump of bread made from flour (not sawdust) today and I feel like a millionaire! Our KZ overlords are so nice here. Far better than yours over in (input name) KZ.

Pitiable really.

My last transfer took 30+ days.....

I tried calling the Ontario CFO on multiple occasions during this time to see what was taking so long. Never connected, their line was always busy.

Contacting the Ombudsman is also a pointless waste of time. All they do is speed up your transfer if they can get threw to the CFO by phone, and the system itself doesn't get fixed. I thought the point of having an Ombudsman was fixing problems, not just giving the people who call special treatment. Seems a little messed up to me.

Whenever I talk to the Ontario CFO it's always the same old story they have been saying for the past two years "we are very busy, we are getting more staff soon, there was a backlog, blah blah".

Clearly there's a big problem with this organization. It's very frustrating that they're treating Ontario gun owners with total disrespect while we're trying to comply with the law.

x 2. Its hit and miss. Sometimes its quick ( Ontario quick that is) and other times it takes forever, with the same excuses, " well its a busy summer.." blah, blah.. At least the ATT's are done via e-mail now. Until a short while ago, in my experience at least, it was ALL done via snail mail so I'd get the paperwork about three weeks after I'd moved the gun. My first resticted purchace online ( two years ago) took 6 weeks to get cleared.

seriously to all you guys getting restricted firearms transfered in minutes i hope you consider yourself very lucky because : where i live it can take up to months.. maybe 2 or 3.

Im still waiting for my 1st ar15 two months ago..

i got my RPAL valid with membership to the biggest club in montreal.. still waiting still calling every week still getting answers with bull#### such as restricted weapons takes up to 1 month to being approved yeah yeah.. bla bla..

enjoy living where you are.. #### quebec k thanks.

Really? I have a license and I have dozens of firearms in my possession already and now I have to wait for someone to approve my private property purchase?!?!

Mr Wyatt you suck! (looks out window for black helicopters)

PLEASE,
No more of these, "My CFO is wonderful," threads.
I can't take anymore. I am running out of faces and palms.

If CFC approves, CFO should approve & issue BS STATT immediately. Even two days goes beyond the epitome of horrible service & operational inefficiency. There is no excuse for any delay, other than malicious harassment. That being said, Chris Wyatt will probably reprimand whoever pleased you.

my latest purchase wasn't even assigned to be reviewed for the first 2 weeks.
just sitting in limbo at the cfo.

They then "did me a favor" by expediting the process and 4 days later it was approved!!!!

Yeah, Ontario CFO rocks.

Yeah, back in 2008 it wasn't uncommon to wait anywhere between 6 weeks to 3 months for a transfer. No idea what the CFO was doing in the meantime, they couldn't possibly have been that busy.

These days, a week seems to be about average. That said, it should basically be automatically done during the transfer. The CFO is looking at your file and the other guys files as the transfer is taking place. All they have to do is scan them quickly to check that there are no warnings or red flags. 10 seconds per transaction.

Wow! There is so much negative energy on here from an original post of something that the OP found to be quite positive. It's easy to see how we are getting nowhere as a community with all the energy devoted to pointing out how bad things are instead of intelligent discussion on how to make things better.
We all want instant transfers and know how long they take and the frustrating restrictions we are subject to, we don't need 6 pages of brain fart replies to remind us do we ?

Useless bureacracy, waste, inefficiency & deliberate harassment should not be condoned or tolerated. If I were in charge, heads would roll if transfers/STATT's took longer than 4 hours without reasonable excuse. WTF are these people doing? I wonder how long it would take them to go to your home and confiscate your guns? Probably less than a 1/2 hour.

The OP's statement is not a direct reflection of actual wait times for the rest of the public. If one guy gets his transfer the next day and 99 have to wait 2 weeks +, guess what, you get a rant.

You can't make things better, it's a gov't red tape BS thing. They don't listen to us or care. Be patient and wait. The next guy who says he got his transfer in 30 minutes is going to start a war as well.

We shouldn't have to wait for a transfer, everything should be immediate. They know all your info when they punch it up... they just want to waste our tax money and justify their jobs.

The only reasonable and rational means of improving the situation for gun owners would be for the government to get rid of the CFOs. They are not needed, and are a colossal waste of tax payer money. Considering the fact that we are licensed owners, I see no need whatsoever for the hoops the CFO makes us jump through. Transfers and ATTs add nothing to public safety. Of course, I do not believe the intent behind our firearms system was for public safety so much as it was to make things sufficiently onerous so as to discourage private firearms ownership. Additionally, if the authorities know who has firearms, then they can come take them from us later. Historically, this is the way it always happens, even here in Canada, as many on this board will attest to, having had their own guns confiscated.

Not sure of what other "helpful" suggestions you were hoping for. Anything less than what I have outlined here is completely unhelpful, unwanted, unacceptable, and ultimately useless.

@ The OP, sorry, I cannot agree with you that a 10 day+ wait is acceptable. Any wait time is unacceptable. We have licenses that we worked hard to get. That is sufficient. You buy a gun, you get it right away. You own a gun, you can take it where you like, without some useless piece of paper from the CFO saying so.

Find out what the budgets for running provincial CFO offices and make it public how much money the taxpayers could save by eliminating the middle man. Seems to have worked for the LGR so keep going. At least it's a start.

This is what I find to be most inexcusible
