M&P upgrades

My pleasure. A very experienced gun owner friend says that he's actually had them do this in the past so it's not impossible. Maybe I have to call in person and be real nice-like. I'll follow up when I actually order.

Still waiting for my PAL :(

So I haven't bothered trying to call Brownell but other local experienced owners said that Brownells played ball with them over similar requests before so there's hope. I also asked a friend of mine who may be able to help if he could get Apex gear for us.

I profiled and polished the firing pin safety plunger, and polished the trigger bar where it contacts same. That significantly reduced the notchiness of that part of the take up. I also reprofiled the sear cam so that it is like the apex kit. Firm reset and no overtravel.

I have considered doing my own forward set trigger. It would require tig welding an extension into the trigger bar to move the trigger forward.

It's interesting what you learn when you take one of these guns apart. They may call them double action only, but they are really single action, but with a long take up and built in safety. Drawing the trigger rearward does not in any way #### the striker.

I shoot a M&P and a Pro, both 9mm. Don't like white dots, changed the sights on the M&P. Do like fiber dot fronts. New sear in the M&P. Major upgrades to both this season, installed a pair of extended Storm Lake barrels with integral comps. Really like the way they shoot!

Hey you got a pic of this? Was wondering how it'd look with the extended barrels

Hi Dmitry,

How's it going? Have you found out anything new about this?

Thanks,
Cal.

Just to update this, now that I've found my M&P, I tried to order from Brownell's and they said it's illegal for them to split an order... I tried to reason that there are known values for the parts, APEX sells a slightly different trigger that they have for 74.95, why can't they just ship the trigger under that value and the rest for the balance... sorry illegal. Whatever.

They can't split an order but you can order twice.

Thanks Bob. The problem is the parts of the kit aren't available separately. They have a spring/sear kit, and they have a trigger kit. But none of those are the same as the parts in the FSST kit... is there any other way around this? This isn't like a single part I'm asking to undervalue, just ship parts separately for their no BS value...

Check with Apex. I have their FSS system installed on my Pro .40cal. The system to work, requires the new sear and spring. The Apex trigger sold separately may work with the competition kit or with the stock sear/spring set up. If Apex confirms the trigger will work with the stock/competition kit then I would go with the trigger and competition kit. There isn't that much difference in the reset using the FSS system vs the competition kit and I know myt FSS gun has a slightly heavier pull than the competition kit gun with the stock trigger. By doing so you could order each separately and be under the $100 max.

The trigger is specifically advertised to work with the duty and competition kits. It just sounds like the FSS would result in a better feel. It reduces travel more than the non-FSS trigger and it has a trigger pull that's between the duty and competition kits. I fear the competition kit may be a little too light but I'm not sure. I've tried a friend's Ed Brown with a 3-3.5lb trigger and I liked it a lot...

Do you mind sharing how you got your hands on the FSS? Please PM if you prefer.

The trigger itself has a slighly different feel but is is more from its design than from function. The break is exactly the same in both guns. The FSS system in my guns is slightly heavier as measured but I can't tell the difference when shooting the gun. I doubt most shooters would perform better using the FSS system vs the Competition kit. The reset difference is pretty small. I do like the feel of the FSS trigger though. If the trigger sold separately has the same abence of pretravel then it is a worthwhile upgrade IMHO.

Thanks again for the insight, Bob. I'll try one more time to get them to split it under the pretense of buying the other components in 2 orders but if they still won't, I'll just buy the comp kit and trigger. They also say that if you keep the factory spring then the trigger pull is more like 4 lbs which is like the FSS, so I could always change it if I think it's too light.

Where to order

I have the Apex Competition Action Enhancement Kit (CAEK) on its way now. Should be here any day now. I found the 6 lb trigger on my M&P 9 to be too heavy for competition use, and it was really affecting my group size. I love the feel of a 2.5 lb trigger, and I will get this M&P set up as close to that as possible.

That said, 2.5 lbs of trigger can be pretty light for guns that are used outside of competitions like IPSC. What do you intend to use this pistol for?

Where can u order this from in canada

Don't go to the bother of getting them to try to split it. They are a huge company with a reputation to worry about and aren't going to put their business at risk for a couple hundred in gun parts for some faceless Canadian.

Get the DCAEK kit and the AEK trigger. I shot my MP40 so equipped next to a buddies MP9L with the FSS at an IDPA shoot and couldn't tell the difference. I'm looking for a 9L to set up like this now also...
